Good vibes for Oreo please! - Updated: she's gone.... :(

Oreo is my parents' almost 14 yo Lab/Cattle Dog.  She was technically my first dog, but she was really more of a family pet when I was still at home.  Oreo has epilepsy but it is well-controlled, but she's dealing with a NASTY lung infection right now and my dad is having trouble getting meds, food, even just water into her.

He noticed she didn't eat all of her food on Tuesday night, she was pretty lethargic yesterday, and when they got up this morning she was disoriented and did NOT look good.  A vet visit showed the infection (fever was causing the disorientation) and they gave her fluids and injected antibiotics.  The vet suggested leaving her overnight on an IV drip but my dad wasn't comfortable with that so he took her home with oral antibiotics and she won't unlock her jaws to allow him to give them. :(  My mom thinks "this is the beginning of the end" I think given an email she sent me and my dad's sounding very discouraged, so I think the O-dog needs those great iDog vibes tonight and for the next couple of days to get her out of the woods.

    Thanks guys!

Come on Oreo, unlock those jaws, take your meds, & eat a little!

Good vibes headed your way from Texas.

Oh, poor Oreo :( I hope she's doing better this morning - could your dad bring her back to the vet today for IV antibiotics? Either way I'll keep my fingers crossed for her.

Usually when a vet suggest IV antibiotics they figure it's the best way because you can bypass the stomach that way and get the antibiotic into the bloodstream (did the vet explain that?) ... but absolutely good thots and prayers!

The vibes are working guys - keep 'em coming!  Big Smile

Oreo did start to drink water sometime between my post last night and this morning, and she's pottying ok and acting a bit perkier.  My dad did take her back to the vet this morning so they can rehydrate as needed and do some more injectable antibiotics; they may keep her tonight and my dad is fine with that now that he's seen how difficult she can be.  I don't think he truly understood how seriously ill she was yesterday.
