Prayers for my grandson

    Prayers for my grandson

My grandson is very sick; he's the youngest of our grandchildren and is 2. He started running a high fever a few days ago (104 to 105), acting like he felt miserable, and not eating. He went to the doctor on Wednesday and the doctor thought it was a bad virus; yesterday all he ate was one french fry. He was acting a little perkier yesterday evening but was much worse this morning. He was taken to the doctor again, who found that his lymph nodes were very swollen. He screamed if they were touched. He was taken to the hospital this afternoon and they're running tests, including a cat scan. They had to sedate him for it because he felt too miserable to lay still. I would really appreciate your prayers; his name is Ayrton. I'll update this as soon as I learn anything new.

I can only imagine how worried you all must be. I'll keep you all in my thoughts and prayers and hope that the test show nothing serious and he starts to feel better soon.

Absolutely I will -- it's so difficult when they are so young and get sick so fast.

Thank you all so much for your prayers; I really appreciate them. The cat scan showed that one of his lymph nodes was infected and had swollen so much that the doctor was concerned it may block his airway, so he was taken to Riley Children's Hospital in a helicopter. The doctor said that Riley was better equipped to do the surgery if he needed it. He was examined at Riley's and they said his lymph node was abscessed  and they wanted to drain it instead of using antibiotics because he would heal faster, so he had surgery at 9 this evening. They went in through the mouth and inserted a tube in his lymph node; it only took about 20 minutes. He's resting and should feel much better now. I'll update this again tomorrow; thanks again for your prayers.

Oh, poor kid. At least they got to the bottom of it and he's in the best place at the children's hospital.  Is his mom your daughter or he's your sons?

It is good that he has received treatment and is on the road to recovery.  It sounds like he is in the perfect place--a children's hospital.  I will continue to keep him and your family in my prayers.  Thanks for the update and please let us know how he is doing.  Big hugs!

Riley is a wonderful hospital; I have a friend who's baby daughter was born several weeks premature and wasn't given much chance for survival. They took her to Riley's and she's happy and healthy today thanks to their great care and expertise. This was several years ago, before all the new technologies for saving preemies were developed, so what they did was amazing. Ayrton is the youngest of four children that belong to my son and his wife. The only daughter I have is in graduate school and she's not planning on getting married anytime soon.

He is sooo much better this morning; he even growled at the nurse, which is a good thing; it's something he does when he's happy. I was wrong about the drainage tube; he doesn't have one. Apparently, that was only if they made an incision in the side of his neck, which they didn't need to do. When my daughter-in-law called this morning he was working on his third cup of juice and had eaten some Cheerios!  There's a good possibility that he'll be going home today.

I was really worried that he would be afraid when they took him on the helicopter, but he was still groggy from being sedated and slept through the ride, so he didn't have that additional stress. I honestly believe all your prayers helped; thanks again.

Yay - that's great news Janice. It sounds like he got some excellent and timely care and that probably made a huge difference. I hope he continues to do well and can go home today.
