Please pray for my friend with cancer

I just got word that a friend of mine was diagnosed with lung cancer this week. She'd had a cold for a few weeks, then lost weight and then woke up one morning coughing up blood. The Dr's thought it was an infection and put her on antibiotics but ordered a lung xray and it showed a spot. They did a biopsy 2 wks ago and it came back inconclusive. I had a sinking feeling but prayed that the 2nd biopsy would prove my fears unfounded. She had 2nd biopsy on Wed. and got the news on Friday.  She's only 47 and has a young son. They haven't told him yet. She'd been a smoker for years and a closet smoker when we worked together.  I got the news from our former boss and she said that Patti doesn't want any calls right now as she's just too emotional. She'll have surgery at UC San Francisco in 2 wks and I guess we'll know more about her prognosis then. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

Prayers from my family!  Tell her to start taking selenium ASAP!!!  UCSF is a fantastic institution, she will get great care there.

Cathy, I'm so sorry to hear about your friend - I can't imagine receiving such scary news any time, but worse during the holidays, and when she's so young, has a young child, etc.  I'd be absolutely terrified if I were her, and as her friend I'm sure you're heartsick with worry.  You'll be a good source of support for her during this time.  Sending you, your friend, and her family lots of good thoughts and strong vibes.

Oh Cathy, I'm so sorry to see the news about your friend's diagnosis. I hope when she has surgery they are able to have better news for her and I hope they caught it in the earliest stage possible. My aunt fought lung cancer for three years when they only gave her less than three MONTHS to live after her diagnosis. Keeping your friend and her family in my thoughts and prayers.

My friend is having a really difficult time with all of this and I just wanted to ask for continued prayers for her. I know she's convinced she's not going to watch her son grow up Sad. She's going to have surgery at UCSF this Thursday and will be in ICU for a few days. The recovery time from the surgery is about 5 weeks and then she'll likely need chemo. Her PET scan showed that it hadn't spread outside of the left lung, so that was good news but I'm still very worried and sad that she's having to go thru this.

Are they doing the surgery VATS?

It doesn't appear that they are and I'm not sure why. I asked if it was the less invasive type of surgery and was told that it was invasive. Patti hasn't wanted to talk to anyone since the dx, with the exception of one person and she's the one who's sharing with the rest of us. I figured that if she had a 5 week recovery it wasn't a non-invasive procedure. Any thoughts on why that would be Kelly?

I'm sorry to be late seeing this; I'll be praying for her. With modern treatments and the fact that it hasn't spread, she should have a very good chance at living many more years. I lost my father to lung cancer, but that was in 1977 and it was very advanced when diagnosed.
