Prayer request for baby to come home (glenmar)

My niece and her husband adopted a baby from Guatamala.  They have been there and bonded with their child shortly after her birth. They have met the birth mother.  They are working through a reputable agency.  Ana was to have been home in time for Christmas.  She is now 6 months old.

Apparently, the level of coruption in this country is beyond belief and the birth certificate needed to obtain the passport and visa is being held up by the mayor.  He wants $1500 per birth certificate (of course under the table) for each of the 22 infants that are waiting to go home through this agency.  The agency, being ethical, won't pay extortion, and the children continue to live in the orphanage, waiting to come home.

So, perhaps idoggers could send up some prayers, not only for Ana, but for the other 21 infants who need to go home?  To soften a heart maybe?  There is such power in this group when we come together, so I'm hoping that maybe we can help Ana come home, along with the other babies.

Jen and her family would be so grateful to be able to hold their new daughter in their arms again.  As would the other families.

How heartbreaking. We'll be praying for baby Ana and her family.

Gosh Glenda, that is just so sad and not just for Ana, but for the other babies who could/should be in a loving home. I will certainly say prayers that things can be worked out so that these babies can finally be getting the love and attention they deserve.

I'm so sorry for this. Being myself Latinamerican is a shame, but that's the way things happen in our countries. I can recommend to your sister, and the other parents waiting for the babies: make a denounce on unicef or the Hague Conference. This kind of things never should happen... I hope this horrible situation ends and you can enjoy a very happy Christmas.

Oh, these poor kids.  We will pray for all of them and especially for Ana and her soon to be new family.

I was reading about Guatemalan adoptions on the news the other day -- will definitely keep this in prayer.

Jen read a book about this orphanage as a teenager, and has felt called to adopt a child from there for years. They have a little boy and a little girl already, the old fashioned way, but this is something she really felt that she was meant to do.

They've borrowed a LOT of money on their home to pay the horrible fees, and they've traveled to see Ana.  For them, it isn't about the money, it's about the bond they feel with this child.  The agency sends videos and pictures on a regular basis, updates on her milestones, etc.  To Jen and her dh, this is THEIR child.

The birth certificate they need, is the new one with THEM listed as the parents.....the original was issued shortly after Ana's birth.  The DNA test has been done to prove that this is the same child, everything else has been done.  The ONLY hold up is ONE piece of paper so that they can get her visa and passport.  The corruption in this country is apparently really widespread.  And, I can understand in a way a poor nation looking at us as rich americans, but, we're talking about the lives of children.  This isn't a piece of basketry or some cute little piece of art that they can overcharge for.  This is a human LIFE.  And while the orphanage is a very good one, it's also not a home with loving parents and siblings.

Jen's faith is very strong and she believes that Ana will come home in God's time.......but it's hard for her to wait, as I'm sure it's not easy for Ana not being in a loving home.

Idogger's prayers are soooo powerful.  I hope we can make a difference for Ana.  And for those other babies caught in corruption limbo.

I don't begin to understand how the mayor has any power in the issuance of the needed birth certificates, but, in last nites email Jen said that he has "dropped" his price to $1300 per baby.  The adoption laws change January 1 and the hope was to get all these babies out of there before the changes......apparently other agencies ARE willing to pay the extortion so he's in a pretty firm bargaining position.  Jen's agency won't budge on this one so prayers are about all that will change the situation.

This is a country with literally hundreds of unwanted babies.  I don't understand what they hope to gain by hanging on to them.

Some very close family friends of ours are going through the same thing. they have been to guatamala several times to visit the baby. They were supposed to have brought the baby home several times before this. right now they are just waiting because of all the new legislation going on but they believe they are being grandfathered in, so hopefully they will get the baby sooner than later. So I totally understand and will be praying for your family too.

Knowing there are so many people that have to jump thru numerous hoops - just to give unwanted children A LOVING HOME is so heart breaking. I pray that those children are given to their families asap and that Ana is HOME with her family VERY SOON!

Still no news.  The agency is saying maybe February now.

Ana's mother has two children aside from Ana.  Ana was the child of rape and the mom didn't feel that she could keep and raise her.  So one parent who doesn't feel capable of raising the child under the circumstances, and the other a lowlife slime ball.  And gracious, you're right they've jumped through so many hoops for this child....just to give her a loving home and a brother and sister.  Sigh.
