Get better Anubis! When a pup has had a rough start it's tough on both the dog and the guardian. I'm sure the vet will check for other types of parasites (they often seem to happen together) -- parasites can make a pup SO sick.
Do be cautious -- if you POSSIBLY can, replace the sod where the puppy pottied -- because hooks live *forever* in your soil. You will need to be ultra vigilant forever with any dogs you may have because all it takes is for the climatic conditions to be 'just right' and hooks will be BACK in your soil.
I took a dog for a local rescue group during a hurricane many years ago -- and it turned out he had hooks and whips. All of my dogs got them, but my "old guy" at the time didn't survive. It was a hot humid July and I thot his lethargy was just an old dog feelng hot. *sigh*. I WAS WRONG. I lost old Mike during treatment.
Since I make sure my dogs get fecals at least twice ... and sometimes 3-4 times a year. I use Interceptor rather than Heartguard and I use it all year round specifically to help protect from hooks. It's not infallible but it's far far better than nothing.
This is one of those things vets often forget to tell you -- that the hooks will live on in your yard. There really isn't anything that will "kill" them fully.
Good luck with Anubis. What a cutie!!
