My Michelle and her miracle

    My Michelle and her miracle

I posted a couple of weeks ago in the Rainbow Bridge section about my cocker Michelle who died in January of this year.    I've been thinking about her and thought that this was a good place to post the story of her miracle.

When I adopted Michelle she had cherry eye in her left eye.   She hadn't been spayed yet, so they took care of the cherry eye during that surgery.

About 3 or 4 months later right after I woke up I noticed that she had what appeared to be cherry eye in the right eye.  I was scared and called the emergency vet to ask if there was anything I could do immediately while I waited for her regular vet to open.   They told me that the only way to fix cherry eye was surgically.

I felt awful for Michelle.   She hadn't been loved very well during her first 2 years with her previous owner - she was one of those poor pups who's family's "don't have the time for her anymore" when she was surrendered to the shelter.

It was shortly after Easter and I always attend the midnight (candlelight) Easter Vigil service and take home any part of my candle that remains.   I took my "extra special Easter Vigil candle", put it into a small glass and lit it.  I had Michelle sit next to me, closed my eyes, and I prayed to St. Francis (the Patron Saint of the environment and all animals in the Roman Catholic religion - he's always been my favorite Saint).

I said "St. Francis, I feel so bad for her - she needs surgery again.   She doesn't deserve this.  I don't know if there is anything you can do, but if you can, please help her and pray with me that she's ok with another surgery".

When I opened my eyes the cherry eye was GONE .... GONE GONE ... not a trace that anything was wrong - not even a little redness remained.   It never recurred.

And that's the story of My Michelle's Miracle.  I wanted to share her story with you.

That is a beautiful, heartwarming story.  Thanks for sharing it and reminding me of the power of prayer [:)]

JoAnn I have seen the power of prayer, and the incredible things the Alpha of all Alphas will do for His little ones.  Sometimes fast, sometimes slow -- but always He cares.  And often, I've seen this SO often, these special littles ones have an impact on others that is so far-far reaching.

Thanks -- I needed that tonight myself!

Oh, that's so nice!  I strongly believe our animals are watched over even though they go thru a lot.

thanks guys.  I'm glad you liked Michelle's story - I never doubt the power of prayer, especially after that.   Whats hard to deal with is that sometimes our prayers go unanswered, but at those times we need to remember that there is a reason ....
I guess you can see why Michelle was so extra special to me - she was a daily reminder of miracles;  I can't wait to see her again someday (and I KNOW I will).

That's an amazing story.  It's pretty awesome, the power of prayer.  You're right though, it's sometimes hard to take when some of our prayers aren't answered the way we want them to be.  But, I guess if every prayer was answered and everything turned out in our favor, we wouldn't appreciate it as much...maybe...  Thank you for sharing your inspiring story. There are times I've wondered why some prayers aren't answered but like you said... there's always a reason why.  It's just hard to see & accept.  Michelle's miracle story is beautiful!  I'm so glad you shared it because there are times that people need to hear that miracles happen... prayers can be answered.

That's an awesome story!  I needed some inspiration this morning to help me start my day.

I'm so glad you came to read Michelle's story.   By this point she was over being a scardy dog with me (for the most part) -- I'm sure that Reese will improve a little each day and that soon you'll be sharing many many happy times with her right by your side.   I'm sure she already knows that you're the best mom she could wish for.

I slept on my closet floor last night because she insisted on being near me, to the point where she was blatantly ignoring the puppies' cries.  I propped my hand up on her little makeshift den so she knew I was near.  I woke up this morning sore as can be, but she had a look of gratitude and love on her face, so it was worth it.  It's been a little rough, so Michelle's story was the boost that I needed this morning.
