Gram Update-Good news

Hi everyone. I just saw Gram for Easter and she's doing sooooo good.
They switched the antibiotic that is being used to treat her infection in her hip long term. And, she's doing so much better on this one-the side effects of the other one were really causing her a lot of problems.

She's been home for awhile and for Easter last night she made THREE HUGE rice pies--it's an Italian thing--but they are a lot of work! She's been playing cards and she's feeling good. The elephant I mentioned I bought at the hospital is in her living room.

Tonight I showed her some stuff on the internet and showed her how slow dial up is! She said to say hello to everyone who wished her well. She finds this all so amazing.

Also, her personality is back! It's mine and DH's birthday on Tuesday and they had a little cake for us. Well, DH has a terrible cold and he didn't want to pass it on to her so he stayed home today. As they were about to sing to just me Gram says "hey, get your cell phone and call Mike so he can hear us." So, I did and she got on and talked to him for a few minutes. But, that sort of fun personality is back and she's very alert and with it.

Anyway, just wanted to share something positive for a change.

I'm so happy for you and your Gram and hope you have many more years to spend with her. I hope your DH feels better soon.

Lori, I'm so glad you posted the good news about your Gram! I can't tell you how happy I am to hear how well she's doing! [

] Loved how she wanted you to call Mike so he could have them all sing Happy Birthday to him as well... how thoughtful. She sounds so sweet and full of personality.

BTW, Happy Early Birthday! To you and to Mike too!

Lori - that is great news! She sounds like such a spunky person and it must be a huge relief to see her feeling good again. It's amazing to me how truly strong some of our elderly relatives can be. I hope I'm that tough [

p.s. I'm Italian, but I don't remember rice pies. Can you descibe what they are?

I can't belive she did it! Go Gram! GoGram! I really miss them, Joe can't eat them and I can't do all the work just for me. Have a piece for me Lor, were they good?

Lori, I missed this yesterday. I'm so happy to hear that your Gram is feeling well enough to exhibit her special personality and "zest" for life. I think it's amazing she made 3 pies. I couldn't bring myself to make ONE, even on my strongest, healthiest day. She'd be appalled to know that I served brownies made from a box mix for dessert on Easter! Baking from scratch, singing, playing cards . . . . she's more spirited and fun than most everyone I know, including myself!

Happy early birthday to you and Mike -- how cool that you share the same birthdate. That's incredible! I hope he feels better in time for you both to have an enjoyable day, and that he doesn't "give" it to you for a birthday present! [

Thank you everyone! Mike's feeling much better and we did have a really nice day today--we both took a vacation day. It's weird saying "Happy Birthday" to him and then he goes, "you too, sweet." I read online there is only a 1% chance of marrying someone with the same birthday.

Gram's pies are rice, about 10 eggs, sugar galore, it's sort of like a custard pie only thicker with rice. It's very good, very sweet. I unfortunately cannot eat them, allergy to eggs. But, DH loves them.

Anyway, thanks everyone for the good wishes. Gram really appreciates it all.
