I carry a continual prayer of gratitude for shelter workers in my heart -- I know what they deal with at our local shelter where I serve as board member, and I'm aware of the similar situations that other folks deal with in communities all over the country, or the world, really. They deserve the highest praise, and I'm so glad there are people like them who can bring themselves to do the work that people like me simply couldn't handle.
Even if they work in a no-kill shelter, they still have to deal with sadness of abandoned, abused and neglected animals, witnessing they awful things humans are capable of. And if they have to work in a shelter where euthanasia is a regular means of population control, then it's a million times worse. I can't imagine the burnout and heartache they experience.
I hope the people in your local shelter, as well as all the others that exist, are lifted by the thoughts and prayers of all of us who appreciate their dedication and sacrifice. They are very special people.
