Prayers Desperately Needed!

    Prayers Desperately Needed!

My grandma (we call her mamaw - she hates being called grandma!) is a young 74 years old & has Diabetes.  For the last few days, her sugar has been kind of high.  Last night, she was taken to the closest hospital and later transported to a more equipped hospital because of her condition.  The first hospital said it seems as if she's having one continuous heart attack and possibly congestive heart failure.

Here's what we know right now... besides the sugar being out of control, she also has pneumonia AND now she's incoherent, there's fluid around her heart and she's being rushed in for a heart cath.  We're all terrified because this seems to have happened so quickly.

Mamaw is one of the sweetest people I've ever known.  She is always the one I go to when someone has a prayer request or if I need prayer because I've always said (and felt) that she has a direct line to God.  When FeFe was sick, Mamaw said one of the most heartfelt prayers for her and for us.  I can't describe how precious she is to all of us.

Please pray for her... and my family.  She's our strength.

Gosh Missy, it does seem like it's been a really rough time for you and your family recently.  I'm so sorry about your grandmother and I do hope they can't find out what's going on and treat it.  I'm sure the diabetes makes everything more complicated in a case like this.  I'll keep you, your grandmother and your family in my thoughts and prayers.

I'm so sorry that your family is going through this.  It's tough and I know that first hand.

Prayers and healing vibes are heading your way, and I'll light a candle for her and the family when I get home.

Thank you so much Cathy and Glenda.

At the moment, she's too unstable to have the heart cath. done so they're waiting until Monday for that.  She's on a respirator right now and there's a lot of damage to her heart but they won't be able to tell how much until Monday.  I'm praying that I'll have lots of updates and that they'll be GOOD ones.

I'm really sorry to hear about Mamaw being so ill.  My Gram is very much in a similar boat having most of her health issues coming from diabetes.  It's a frightening disease.  I've recently learned due to the issues my own Gram was having that heart disease can go hand in hand with diabetes.  They discovered my Gram had had a silent heart attack while she was in the hospital.  Anyway, I'll tell my Gram about yours and we will pray for her.  Willow sends purple chow tongue kisses too.

Missy, I didn't see your prayer request until now.  I'm sending all the good thoughts, vibes and prayers I can muster now to catch up.  I can't imagine the terrible time you and your family are having as you face your Mawmaw's health crisis -- I know you've all been hanging on to the last threads of strength lately since Brownie's illness and passing.  Let's hope that she was hospitalized in time for medical attention to really make a difference and that she'll be improving as each hour passes.

We all have older family members that we think of as "young" because of their wonderful attitudes, zest for life and inspirational way they affect our lives -- it's so awful to see them fighting against an illness or disease that suddenly makes them seem so fragile and old.  My mother will turn 70 this year, and I think of her as perpetually about 55 years old.  It's scary to think of the health scares she could have ahead due to her blood pressure issues and such.

Let your Mawmaw know that she has all kinds of positive energy being sent her way from points all over the country (and beyond).  We'll hope for positive news from you very soon.  Hugs to you and your family.

Thank you Annie, Janice, Lisa Marie, Paige, Maria & Talus, Lori & Willow, Debbie & the Paps, Tracy & Callie.... I'll be sure to tell her about all of the prayers being sent up for her by all of you.

We're off again early in the morning.  The hospital is close to 3 hours away and first visitation is 9:30am.  Right now, visitation is every three hours and only two people are allowed to see her at a time.  There's no changes at this point, the heart cath is still scheduled for Monday morning.  They brought her out (just a little) from her sedation and she seemed to recognized those around her.  That was a blessing.

Lori, I had no idea Diabetes could lead to so many other problems.  Just like your Gram, her heart problems are coming to the surface now.  We had no idea.  And Tracy, like you said about your mom's age... Mamaw, to me, would be in her late 50s at the most and to think she's 74, it's just unreal.

I hope to have more updates.  Thank you guys again... I know how powerful these idog prayers can be!

I had a Mamaw and that's what my kids call my mom too so I'm partial to them![;)]

Thank you, Michelle.   Both mamaws refuse to have any of us call them Grandma, Granny or Grandmother.  My cousin's two young girls call her "that Mamaw" and she eats that up!

Just to update -- Sunday she was really responsive, opening her eyes, raising her eyebrows, squeezing our hands and wiggling her feet.  I expected the worst and thought all in all, she really didn't look like what my mind thought she would.  They decided to delay her heart cath for a day, just to give her a little more time to improve a little more from the pneumonia and staph infection (we just found out about that Sunday).

However, that changed today.  Her BP was down to 48 over 30... she was losing blood, not responsive -- I thought that was it.  That was earlier this morning.  After having a blood transfusion and some adjustments to her meds, she made a huge improvement by this evening.  She was in such bad shape that they put off the heart cath. until tomorrow.   I'm not sure what time, we're all still waiting to hear.

I decided to post a photo too... this is Mamaw holding FeFe during Christmas back in 2000.  I always put a diaper on Fe just in case she needed to potty, I didn't want her to do it in her house.  Mamaw LOVED Fe, even bought her presents just like she did for the other grandkids [:D].

Please continue to pray for her.....
