Old dog attacked and needs some good vibes! (Update!)

My grandparents have an old dog, maybe 10 yrs old at lest.  His name is Duke and he looks to be a mastiff mix but is as nice and gentle as can be, great with kids (very large friendly old dog with bladder issues).

Yesterday he was attacked by two black pit bulls that found their way into my grandparent's yard.  They both attacked him at the same time and poor Duke who is the size of both of them put together could not fend them off.  It happened while my grandparents were sitting in their front yard and Duke was by their side when suddenly out of no where the two dogs attacked.  My Grandpa grabbed a pitch fork to pry apart the dogs and out of rage was about to kill one of the pits to stop it from attacking when the owner yelled "Please don't kill my dog!” and jumped the fence to retrieve his dogs that were still latched onto poor almost dead Duke.  He took his dogs and left.  Duke went to the e-vet but turns out no broken bones or any punctured organs and was cleaned up and patched back together.  He was able to go home but is really beat up.  My Grandparents are still shocked and are keeping a close eye on Duke.  I haven't seen him but from the sounds of things he's doing alright and just hanging in there.

Please, Duke is old and this must have been a shock to him.  He needs good vibes right now.  I have my candle lit but I know he needs some good doggy thoughts sent his way to make it through this.  I'm going to go over to visit him today and I'll try to take some pics to show.

Genital, lmao.  I think you meant gentle.   Anyways I am sorry the dog got attacked.

Your poor grandparents and Duke, they need to call animal control so that other dog owner will be held accountable.
I will say prayers for the boy.

We keep telling them they need to do something about it, or at lest report what happen but it's been such a shock for my grandparents that at first they were at a lost of what to do.  My grandpa knows the guy and says he doesn't want to start anything with him...  I hope they do because that guy doesn't deserve to own those dogs.

Right now they are more concerned if Duke will make it through this.

Gosh, that is really heartbreaking and not just for Duke, but for your grandparents.  That must've been so frightening for them.  I'll keep Duke and your grandparents in my thoughts and prayers, and I hope Duke heals quickly.

Duke is doing much better today!

From what I heard over the phone last night was not as bad as what I saw when I went to visit.  Of course my grandparents were going to exaggerate his condition being that he was coved in blood after it happen which made them think the worse.  The blood is all cleaned up and he didn't have any large open wounds and the ones he had were only minor.  He does seemed a bit bruised and doesn't like to be touched around his neck but nothing to be too worried about.  He just started to get up and walk around this afternoon but is still very slow, he's on some good pain meds.  He weighs 145lbs so he is a big boy and it takes a lot to get moving.  Looks like everything will be alright.[:D]  Thanks for your good thoughts!  I'm sure he will still need them to get over this emotional stress as well.

Here are some pics, look how good he looks today!

You can see his neck is a bit swollen.  He has a wound on his inner thigh but other than that nothing noticeable on the outside.  Guess his thick hide protected him.

Awww, he looks like a sweet boy.  I hope the vet gave them antibiotics so he doesn't develop an infection from the bite wounds.

And he has pain meds, right? Those attacks and rips and tears sure can take a toll!

I had a dog that was attacked twice (at least) and though those things are way more difficult for us to take (than the dog), I know it's scary and dogs can become fearful after those incidents. My dog, who used to love other dogs, became very wary.

Still--he's looking good and feeling better--good news!
