Prayer request for my Mom.

Hey everyone thanks for thinking of us. Mom had the bone scan but of course no results yet. She went to see a Naturopath type doctor. She is in much better spirits, feeling better and doing much better emotionally. We still have to wait for the biopsy and bone scan results on Monday. She wants to continue working with this Naturopath doctor and went back again yesterday.

More prayers that the results you all get on Monday are better than expected.

Mary, I'm just getting to read things that are not about dog now,,,,I'm sorry that I missed this. This is so hard for you all and I'm so sorry.  I will certainly keep your mom AND you in my thoughts and prayers!

MK--I already posted in the other post, but wanted to wish your Mom (and you) well here, too.It wasn't too long ago that my own immediate family went through this--the ups and downs of diagnoses (since it seems to take so many).

Tell her that everyone is thinking of her--and when a few send good thoughts, they grow and stretch. She'll get lots.

The news is not good. Chemo next. Thank you all for your prayers.

I'm so sorry to hear that the news wasn't good and I know the idea of chemo is never pleasant, but it can and does help in many cases.  I hope your mom's is one of those.  Will continue to pray for her and the rest of your family.

Oh Mary, I'm sorry.   Many people go thru Chemo without many problems. Sure hope your mom is one of them.    My mother - in  - law had a few bouts of chemo, and she did just fine. She had bladder cancer and had to have it removed. She is STILL doing fine.  In fact she is doing great.  The first round of Chemo knocked her blood out of wack,,,but when she had to go for the second round, they used only half of what they did the first time.   She still had a little blood trouble,,,but as I said,,,a few years later she is fine. She lives in an assisted living place where she is happy.  I hope the same luck for your mom.
    Hang in there Mary!

OK, so, some not great news just means that all of us have to pull together with prayers, healthy vibes and good wishes for an EASY course of treatment and a FAST remission.

I know that the news has got to be devastating and it's a hard thing to deal with.  But, you've got us and we're here to support and help in any way that we can, and if you just need a shoulder to cry on, or want to rage at the heavens, or whatever YOU need, you know that we are here for you.

Hugs to you, and to your Mom as well.

I copied all your posts and sent them to Mom. She asked me to post this message for all of you.

Hi Mary, I want to thank all the people from your dog and horse page who said prayers me I appreciate them so much, I know I felt them. I am going to need all the prayers as I embark on this experience. I believe in prayer, I know I am not the only one who has to go through this illness and my prayers are with those who have walked this path and will have to in the future.  I ask again for help through this with prayer. Thank you all, Blessings from Mom

Thank you to ALL MY IDOG FRIENDS again from me.

    Dear Mary's Mom,

Please continue to believe in the power of idog prayers.  This summer alone idoggers have prayed my family through several medical crisis.  My Mother was in and out of the hospital ALL summer with her BP out of control....at one point 265/150....she's 82.  She had all manner of tests, a stent placed in her left kidney artery, yet still the BP would skyrocket.  And, of course all the BP meds slowed her heart rate to a dangerous level.  The day after she was released after having a pacemaker installed, my 26 year old nephew was admitted with a heart rate close to 260.  His condition is one that is normally diagnosed by autopsy.  He now has an implanted defibulator.  My husband just went through cardiac cath and angio when FOUR blockages were discovered...the LEAST was 80%....one was 99%.  And, my sister was recently told that she has a hole in her heart.  DH is fine now...feeling better than he has in years, and sis doesn't need to have surgery to repair the hole since she's in such good health and an athlete.  This by the way, is the sister who was diagnosed with MS in 2001 and is still running marathons.

I have asked for sooooo many prayers this summer, and idoggers have just been here for me.  And the power of prayer has helped four family members with potentially life threatening conditions regain their health.  And, no small thing, idoggers have helped me cope with all the medical ups and downs.

This has to be a horribly frightening situation for you, but know that we are all here, pulling for you, and giving Mary whatever we can, whatever she needs to help her to cope.

I have read many accounts of people who use visualization to help fight cancer.....who SEE their cancerous cells becoming healthy and pink again, and it happens.  So, I'm going to be visualizing healthy cells in your body and praying up a storm for you, and for your family.

Know that you will remain in our thoughts and prayers, and that we'll do whatever it takes to help you both through this trying time.

Sending more hugs, and maybe just a bit of chicken soup!

Like Glenda I've seen incredible "answers" to prayer and the support from the folks here.  Altho Billy's journey thru the IMHA crisis was well supported by vets, the odds said he should not have made it.  But he DID.

The other significant help -- one which regular doctors truly don't underestimate -- is how much doctors learn from how vets are treating animals (not animal testing but simply sharing experience from one medical arena to another).

You will read a LOT about cancer diets on here -- essentially the basic premise is that carbohydrates feed cancer and allow/cause it to grow.  So a dog that is put on a diet of protein and veggies with NO grain carbs often does far far better than a dog that continues to eat carbs.

If you want to email me, I have Dr. Clemmon's cancer diet -- he's a neurosurgeon from U of Fl at Gainesville and diet is one of his special interests.  Not that your mother wants to follow a dog diet, altho it IS essentially an Atkins' type diet, BUT there is a ton of information about the use of antioxidants, etc. as well.

The other thing that we used SOOOOO successfully when Muffin the Intrepid went thru chemo was the Chinese herbals -- they tend to actually augment chemo and allow it to work better ***without*** nearly as much of the nausea, etc.  Dogs often suffer very very similar side effects to humans (not the hair loss but the nausea, etc.) and the herbals can be a super help, so if your Mom can locate a DOM (doctor of Oriental medicine) for auxiliary treatment it can be an awesome help.  Not instead of, but in addition to.  Dr. Clemmons' diet refers to some of these -- particularly maitake mushroom (available in capsules).  That's a "polysaccharide" which ANY regular doctor is going to encourage -- it's one of the things that can help chemo be more effective, but it also is one of the things they've identified that protects healthy cells from cancer invasion.

So not only will I-Dog help with good thots and prayers, but sometimes it is actually cutting edge medicine.  Human doctors tend to assume (note I said *assume* -- and not rightfully so) that people won't want to change their diet.  It has been well established medical knowledge (NOT opinion, but actual 'knowledge') for about 35-40 years that carbohydrates feed cancer and make it grow.  But because cancer is such an 'emotional' disease many doctors just plain don't want to argue with people about diet when they already know nausea is such an issue.

    Good luck!!

One night a man had a dream. He dreamed He was walking along the beach with the LORD. Across the sky flashed scenes from His life. For each scene He noticed two sets of footprints in the sand. One belonging to Him and the other to the LORD.

When the last scene of His life flashed before Him, He looked back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the path of His life there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times of His life.

This really bothered Him and He questioned the LORD about it. LORD you said that once I decided to follow you, you'd walk with me all the way. But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life there is only one set of footprints. I don't understand why when I needed you most you would leave me.

The LORD replied, my precious, precious child, I Love you and I would never leave you! During your times of trial and suffering when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you.
