    Prayers needed for my Mom

My sister just called...Mom tripped over a cord and they think she may have broken her hip...she is 83...

Oh gracious!  Prayers and healing vibes heading her way.

My mother will be 82 in a couple months so I know the feeling.

My grandma broke her hip and had to have surgery at age 97.  She is now 100.  I truly hope your mom didn't break her hip, but even if she did she will still recover- they do amazing things medically these days!

    Healing vibes headed your way.

Thanks and keep the prayers coming...my Mom is in MA and I am in GA.  I still don't know more..I'm sure my brother and sister are still at the hospital....I need to buy them cell phones!

Winnie spent the day at the Vet...still checking for bladder stones, knowing now she has a UTI.  Xrays showed something they would like to have ultrasounded.

DH went out of town on business today until Friday.  Help me stay on a steady course, people....

    Dear Marty,
My mother, who is 87, has had to have two hip replacements, although they were not from fractures, which are apparently very common. I pray for relief of your mom's pain, wisdom for her doctors, and quick healing of her hip.

Thanks everyone...she did break it in 2 places.  They need to get her electrolytes in balance, so surgery will be tomorrow.  My brother just told me that she spent 3 hours trying to get to the phone, so we'll be looking into one of those medic-alert bracelets (for both of our mothers).  He checks in on her once a day, but...

I feel helpless being so far away, but there's not much I can do if I fly up there.  Maybe later...

I sure do understand that helpless feeling and it stinks.  My father passed away in Jan at 87 and had been in a nursing home (alzheimers) for the last 2 years.  Before that though, I worried constantly about him being alone.  He was a smoker and I was just sure he'd burn down the house someday.  He did have a fall once while going out front to get the paper.  A man on an early morning walk saw him and called an ambulance. He'd broken his leg and cut himself up pretty bad.  It broke my heart to think of him laying there injured.  I tried to talk him into the medic alert systems but he didn't think he needed it.  I think it's a great idea though and will give you peace of mind when you can't be there.  I hope your mom has an uncomplicated surgery and a speedy recovery.

I'm so sorry that it is broken.  But I absolutely agree that the medic alert thing is a great idea.  Prayers for a successful surgery and a quick recovery.

Oh, boy, sorry about this.  I'm sure it will all work out though.  My gram fell at our house on the day of my brothers high school graduation party.  Had to have the surgery and then therapy after.  She's 80 now and still doing well.

Marty, you sure have a lot on your plate this week.  Sending good thoughts your way, and hopefully your mother's surgery and recovery will go smoothly.  I live in Oregon and my mother is in Connecticut, so I know how helpless one feels in these types of situations.  But you're right -- going up there now won't really help.  However, it might make her recovery better if she had a visit from you to look forward to after this intial chaotic period.  You'll be able to really help then.  Right now, we'll pray for excellent medical care and comfort for her.  Take care.
