I feel really really helpless right now because I am having to see him struggle coming out of the anesthesia and I am supposed to do this to him again on Friday???
.
Karen MAKE SURE they know this -- it sounds to me like they need to use a different sedative/anesthesia combo on Bugs -- they are NOT all equal and he IS a mix. You might want to troll around on some breed specific boards (Isn't he supposed to be part lab/part dane??) and SEE if there is a known combo that isn't so good.
Were they supposed to keep him over night??? (like I'm wondering if they deliberately keep them groggy if there is not a lot of staff on over-night??? that wouldn't thrill me to my tippy toes).
I know years ago when Foxy had his peri-anal hernia repaired, he darned near didn't come out of the anesthesia (very like what you're talking about) -- and that was back when other stuff was used and they found out that shelties, in particular, didn't do well with a particular sedative/anesthesia combo. My vet made that part of his record because what he'd used should have been ok, but it was something Foxy was more sensitive to than normal.
Then again -- I have to wonder if they don't sedate them heavily because they pprobably have them pretty restrained all over to keep them from shifting during surgery on a surgery like that. And they probably want him absolutely "out" before they start to do that. I'm going to guess it's more sedative than anesthesia. But just make SURE the vet knows this was *not* good coming out of it.
He may be super thirsty tomorrow .... he's had other procedures so make note of anything "unusual"
Dang Karen -- I am SO sorry .... In honesty I wish we could all just crowd around you and help you have a little pity party. You and B both deserve it!!
