Cora & J - need prayers

Absolutely -- continued prayers for Cora for a diagnosis and treatment and love & support for all

I'm late seeing this, but am sending lots of good vibes to Cora, J, and all the people and pets in their circle.  I hope the consult helps identify something more specific for a diagnosis and that it's something treatable.  In the meantime, I'm glad Cora is being surrounded by all her loved ones -- that's the best medicine for her!

Thanks again, guys.  Her littermate sister (owned by a friend) just went to the vet on an emergency b/c she appears to have a spinal issue of her own - humped up back and crying out when trying to take her first step down the stairs.  Oye!  We shall see what the x-rays show.

oh man -- name please?  I need to put the candle page up here again -- Cora needs ongoing support and now this girl does too

Thanks Callie.  Cora's sister is Charm.  From Charm's mom:

"from looking at films with our general vet - disc space at T9-10 & T10-11 appear pretty narrow and I thought T10 appeared slightly out of alignment. Course I've only seen my own fims and and scans and can relate to the back pain they represent. So medical intervention first: very restricteive rest - steroids and a muscle relaxant/sedative combo for 10 days. The orthoped will look at films and review write up on Monday. Keeping the Charminator quiet and on short leash walks when she's used to flying through the woods is a challenge. Thank you all for your kind words and thoughts.
Easter must be my animal challenge holiday - last year Cisco, our African Gray escaped and we spent the weekend taking turns montoring where he was. I finally retrieved him on Monday afternoon. Maybe Monday will bring us good news as well."

Cora wakes up every morning looking terrible.  Ever seen a sick cow - that's sort of how she looks, her body slung between the posts of her legs, which aren't all functioning the best because her weakness causes her physical recovery from her spinal injury to unravel and her back left leg wobbles around like a loose leg on a chair.  Her hackles are up all down her back and she stares.  She's been reluctant to eat all her breakfast, but then by mid day she looks good/normal again.  I had to hand-feed her breakfast yesterday after her owner gave up out of sheer sadness seeing how unhappy Cora looked.  Figured out she likes the wettest/sloppiest version of her food in the morning, so this morning, her mom prepared her meal that way and she GOBBLED it up!  So, like a fog lifting, she's already coming up to her normal "temperature" for the day.  A friend sold us a new area rug which Cora finds very comfortable to lay on, which is a good thing!  She's laying on it now, versus any dog beds.

It's a day-by-day sometimes hour-by-hour thing.  I wish to GOD they could find the answer.  There's a possibility she will go for another ultrasound tomorrow and they may attempt to go after the lesions on her lungs again.  Because they need to know what those are - cancer, or infection of some kind... but it's scary as hell to think the needle biopsy through her lungs wasn't successful once, so now what?

I just keep praying for relief for this dog.  She deserves for there to be a solution.  She deserves to make it to her 8th birthday the end of June.  You guys who don't have Dobes may now understand why I've been terrified all of Gracie's life just to get her past 7 years old.

Glad you are there to help -- and yeah, I know what you mean about the age thing.  It's like therea re some thresholds that are just SO difficult.

Will keep both Charm and Cora in my prayers and good thots

I'm so sorry that Cora is still having such a hard time. I know how frustrating and heartbreaking this can be, especially when you don't know what's going on fully. I'm still thinking good thoughts for both Charm and Cora.

I understand this, too.  The way you described Cora and how she appears first thing in the morning versus later in the day was what we went through with Tonka in his final weeks (and we never really had a specific diagnosis with him either).  Each morning, we were thinking that was the day we'd make the dreaded last trip to the vet, but by late afternoon or early evening, he seemed so much better that we'd have renewed hope.  It's an exhausting and heartbreaking roller-coaster.  I'm continuing to send good vibes to Cora and all her people, as well as to Charm.

This morning Cora went under sedation and this time they were able to get plenty/enough of the tissue from the lesions for a full biopsy to determine what the hell is in her lungs.  I can't remember how long they said it would be until they'd get the results, but too long, either way, simply because of all the waiting.

Thank you again for the continued support.  There's a lot going on in my world, just like everyone else's, and every kind thought helps.

We've spent a few meals trying to convince Cora to eat one thing or another, but now we're down to absolute refusal of everything other than something to drink.  She's just thirsty and wants to drink.  I've mushed things up into water and she'll lap around the things, but if it's too much stuff in the water, she won't drink it.

This is so depressing.  It's Saturday night, the vet is closed until Monday.  What's the point of bringing her to the emergency vet tonight - they can give fluids, but she's taking fluids just fine.  She did eat about a cup of food earlier today.  We picked up an appetite stimulant medicine this afternoon that says to only give it once a day in the morning, and it's heartbreaking because she is interested in food, but won't eat it.  Either that's just instincts when she smells it/hears the bowls, whatever.  But what little bit of anything she started to nibble on she peuked already.

This is not the way it should be.

Edit to add - still no results on the frigg n biopsy done earlier.  All I want to do is cry.  For many reasons.

The vet called in tonight and left a message.  We have a diagnosis.  Going to see the vet tomorrow.
