Thanks Callie. Cora's sister is Charm. From Charm's mom:
"from looking at films with our general vet - disc space at T9-10 & T10-11 appear pretty narrow and I thought T10 appeared slightly out of alignment. Course I've only seen my own fims and and scans and can relate to the back pain they represent. So medical intervention first: very restricteive rest - steroids and a muscle relaxant/sedative combo for 10 days. The orthoped will look at films and review write up on Monday. Keeping the Charminator quiet and on short leash walks when she's used to flying through the woods is a challenge. Thank you all for your kind words and thoughts.
Easter must be my animal challenge holiday - last year Cisco, our African Gray escaped and we spent the weekend taking turns montoring where he was. I finally retrieved him on Monday afternoon. Maybe Monday will bring us good news as well."
Cora wakes up every morning looking terrible. Ever seen a sick cow - that's sort of how she looks, her body slung between the posts of her legs, which aren't all functioning the best because her weakness causes her physical recovery from her spinal injury to unravel and her back left leg wobbles around like a loose leg on a chair. Her hackles are up all down her back and she stares. She's been reluctant to eat all her breakfast, but then by mid day she looks good/normal again. I had to hand-feed her breakfast yesterday after her owner gave up out of sheer sadness seeing how unhappy Cora looked. Figured out she likes the wettest/sloppiest version of her food in the morning, so this morning, her mom prepared her meal that way and she GOBBLED it up! So, like a fog lifting, she's already coming up to her normal "temperature" for the day. A friend sold us a new area rug which Cora finds very comfortable to lay on, which is a good thing! She's laying on it now, versus any dog beds.
It's a day-by-day sometimes hour-by-hour thing. I wish to GOD they could find the answer. There's a possibility she will go for another ultrasound tomorrow and they may attempt to go after the lesions on her lungs again. Because they need to know what those are - cancer, or infection of some kind... but it's scary as hell to think the needle biopsy through her lungs wasn't successful once, so now what?
I just keep praying for relief for this dog. She deserves for there to be a solution. She deserves to make it to her 8th birthday the end of June. You guys who don't have Dobes may now understand why I've been terrified all of Gracie's life just to get her past 7 years old.
