Tragedy in my neighborhood

    Tragedy in my neighborhood

I don't visit this section often, but yesterday something happened that shocked us.  A guy my DH grew up with (and we both went to high school with) and whose mom was friends with DH's mom was killed.  He was an armored truck driver and his partner shot him in the back of the head and took off with the money.  This is one of the nicest families I have ever known and my husband isn't taking it well.  He hasn't seen or spoken to Mike in quite a few years although we do still keep in touch with his mom who lives right up the street from us, so he is feeling a bit guilty about that.

I thought about sending flowers, but I know they don't really need something else to take up space.  They will have to clean out Mike's apartment soon enough.  I'm thinking we should take them some food instead, although I'm sure they will have plenty of that as well.  But keep Mike and his family in your thoughts. This is a tough time for us all.

Here is the story of what happened.

Oh my gosh, that is so awful!  I can't even really wrap my head around that.

As far as food goes, even if they have a lot they may be able to freeze some so that could still help.

I'm sorry your DH is feeling guilty.  Will say a prayer for both your family and theirs.

I just feel so sad and sorry this happened.

I havent had a chance to read the article yet but just wanted to let you know that we will be sending prayers for this family.

Food is good for the reason that relatives, friends, neighbors, co-workers for many days before and after services will be dropping in.  Taking something that will freeze is good.  I often take paper plates, napkins. drinking glasses, coffee cups, coffee, tea, or aluminum foil, freezer bags, handi-wrap, trash bags, papertowels, toilet paper, etc.    Paper products can add up and folks dont often think about that.

Thoughts going out to his family.

I am so sorry to hear this.  My heart just about sunk when I read your post.  I rarely watch the new but I saw this when the story first came out and details hadn't been released yet.

How horrible. Money is such nasty nasty stuff sometimes, what it does to people... :( I'm so sorry GeorgAnne.

I'm so sorry to read this story and I'm sorry that your husband is struggling with this. I'll keep you all in my thoughts and prayers. I do think that taking over some food is a nice idea. It doesn't have to be a large amount of food or anything fancy. Even a plate of cookies would probably be appreciated and it really is the gesture that counts in this type of situation. Again, I'm so sorry that such a senseless tragedy has struck so close to home. (((Hugs)))

Oh GeorgAnne, I'm so sad to hear this.  You, your hubby & his friend's family are in my heart.  ((HUGS))

    I like Ginger's ideas.

Oh that's awful. So senselessly tragic. :(  I'll be praying for the family.

Food is always a good idea and useful. You might also see if there is any errands you can run for members/a member of the family or help cleaning around their house. Sometimes you just don’t feeling doing these things or have the time when something like this happens.

I'll have you all in my thoughts and prayers.

Oh my gosh. I was just stunned when I read this. This is such a tragedy. You, DH and the fellow's family will be in my thoughts. So sad.

How awful for that family, my prayers go out to all of them.

Thanks everyone for all of your thoughts and prayers.

In lieu of flowers they actually requested donations be made to our local humane society or a charity of one's choice, so I made a donation in Mike's name to the shelter where I work.  We will probably make them some food as well.

What a tragedy.  And what in the world makes someone think that they'd actually get away with something like that? Now there are two families shattered.
