    Thoughts for Maze please?

Can I get some thoughts for Maze please?? She's been loosing weight, scratching more and she just swiped a piece of food off a plate. Something she hasn't done since she was a puppy... I know it's not a major problem but the treatment she's on is new to me so I'm worried about her.

I put a call into my holistic lady but still...

Maybe she is getting pickier about the food she wants to eat and liked what was on your plate more than whats in her bowl..  Tee Hee.  Just kidding.  Of course...good thoughts for your Maze.  What treatment is she on?

LOL. I'd rather eat what she's getting right now. She's doing a detox program and gets homecooked instead of kibble. Her body is displaying conflicting symptoms so the holistic lady is trying to get things sorted out. Right now Maze is getting Cod oil, rescue remedy, alfalfa tabs and sulphur. The sulphur is to treat the allergic reaction she had to Organ grape tincture. She's my special girl. LOL

ETA: Forgot about the chammomile tea she gets every night with her dinner to settle her tummy... Lol

Poor Maze; sending lots of healing vibes. Was she losing weight and having other problems before she was put on this detox program? If so, a full chemistry panel may be a good idea. Do you know how many calories are in the diet you're feeding her? Cooked food usually has fewer calories per cup than commercial dog food. How much fat is she getting? Not getting enough fat may explain the food stealing (she feels hungry). The scratching can be from needing omega 3 fatty acids, or simply not getting a balanced diet. The skin needs vitamin A, B vitamins, zinc, and other nutrients to be healthy. About the chamomile tea; if Maze is allergic to ragweed, the tea can make her itch. It's called a cross reaction, and chamomile is in the ragweed family. Is the person who is treating Maze a veterinarian? The sulfur treatment concerns me, but it may be okay.

Good thoughts for Maze and you. I wondered about the calorie content of homecooked, too. I hope you're able to figure it all out quickly.

Sulphur?  homeopathic sulphur or biological sulphur or ???

Oregon grape -- as in grapeseed?  It boosts the immune system in people, but typically not something I'd give a dog (raisins, grapes -- it's the seeds that cause the problem with the kidneys)

Good thots? Absolutely!!  Holler if you need help ok?

Callie maybe she means this. No idea tho...our neighbor has some of these in here yard interestingly enough... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oregon-grape

She's on a bare diet of brown rice, peas, broccoli and ground beef for now. The rice being cooked in a broth made of beef soup bones. Bailey doesn't want her getting bones at the moment just so we can figure out what's going on. The sulphur is 30c tincture she made up for Maze. No she's not a vet per say however she has treated many dogs and the vets around here recommend her. The weight loss and food stealing started AFTER I switched her over. The hair loss and scratching is a constant that the vets couldn't figure out, which is why I sought Bailey out. She also practices on people and is co-owner of a Chinese acupuncture, massage and herbal clinic.

Callie, Lemme look up the organ grape, I still have some in the fridge and I'll get back to you on it. Maze also has had chamomile tea in the past with no adverse reaction. She loves it. Lol

Everything Maze has been getting is special measured out to her specifics with the exception of the cod oil and alfalfa tabs since those are store bought.

homeopathic sulphur is a SUPER common skin remedy.  And yep, I bet Gina's right -- Oregon grape *is* used as an anti-inflammatory.  Man, I learn something new every day!!

Probably using the chamomile for it's anti-inflammatory properties as well as it's tummy-settling properties.  I'm allergic as sin to ragweed but chamomile doesn't bother me at all.  But David, who is Mr. Healthy can't tolerate chamomile -- he gets a mega weird allergic reaction to it -- it actually makes him feel all prickly and light-headed.

Sounds like some good stuff she's doing.  But will urely keep her in my good thots and prayers!!

Wow! And here I thought you were the all knowing one, Callie. LOL *ducks under the desk* Maze broke out in hives and a really bad rash when we used the oregon grape but I've still got a full bottle.

Bailey has also ordered some Chinese pills that she uses all the time, for Maze. No idea of the name right now but as soon as I remember, I'll let you know.

Well today there's been no food stealing or floor surfing. So that's some good news. She seems in good spirits today. Baliey has given me the go ahead to add some more fat to Maze's diet so now I get to play with her food.Big Smile
