good thoughts for my neighbor's golden (kpwlee)

Ugh, my neighbor's golden, who is the biggest, laziest, sweetest dog you could ever know, is struggling to walk tonight. The husband called me as his wife and daughter are away and he came home to Cody not being able to get up.  I brought over my webmaster harness and sling and we got him to a rug (he was on hardwood) and got him to eat.  He doesn't seem to be in pain but he clearly is struggling to use his back legs at all.

He's about 10, has had two TPLO's, lives on Rimadyl, and is a BIG boy (usually @110lbs) - he was born to be a therapy dog as all he wants to do is lie down and be pet.  He is a dream to walk and some of the neighborhood kids walk him around because he's never ever even considered pulling.  He can sit out in the yard on Halloween and just gently saunter around with his wonderful fan like tail slowly swishing. He used to play with baby Bugsy and we used to urge him to give B a slap down....never happened.  In fact when they played tug he would quit and just hold the rope and B would drag him around.  LOL

Just a way cool lovebug.  So send some vibes that this will pass.  I may help the owner get him to the ortho guy as without his wife there he is panicked and unsure as to how to move him or anything.  The owner is a super nice laid back guy and I have never seen him so nervous.

Sending positive vibes for Cody and his family. I hope they can find out what's going on and help him. Karen, I glad you're there to help!

Awwww, Its so sad when age catches up to our favorite friends.   Wishing him some healing vibes and calming vibes for Dad.

    Absolutely -- bless his heart.

Plenty of good thoughts for Cody.

That dog needs to be seen by a vet. I am thinking slipped disc in this case and the weight he is carrying around is detrimental to his overall well-being. He needs to loose weight (especially after two TPLOs). A Godlen's frame is not meant to sustain 110 lbs.

May the owners get answers and see what needs to be done. Ten is old but ten and 110lbs will get him older before his time.

    Sorry if this sounds harsh.

I'll keep sweet Cody in my thoughts and prayers.  I think it's so wonderful that you and many of your neighbors are also good friends, through your dogs.

Thanks all, no improvement so they are off to the vet this morning. The ortho doesn't open until 9 and his owner doesn't want to wait that long.

Thalie not too harsh and I am usually one to jump on weight issues BUT this golden is HUGE. He is similar height to Bugsy (@29) but longer than B, much longer and heavily boned. His paws are massive! 108-110 is a good weight for him, he has been over 120(which was years ago) Think great Pyr size

What a regal looking dog !!  I hope Cody's dad gets some answers at the vet this morning.  Good vibes going for Cody and his family.

Vet felt it was a severe arthritis flare up so put him on tramadol as well as the rimadyl - once he's feeling better they'll get him out walking again.

Aging stinks and I fear that Cody isn't the type of dog who has any desire to battle it.  His great love in life is to lay outside in the sun in their flower bed.  After his knee surgeries they never had to restrain him - they had to motivate him to do the walking for rehab LOL Don't get me wrong he loves his walks but if he doesn't get one he's happy - he's always just sweet and happy.

I am praying that this is an episode and he's feeling better soon.

Praying that this was an isolated episode also. Cody looks like a gorgeous, sweet boy and I absolutely know how heart wrenching it is to see our fur kids struggle.

Oh, I just want to rub those ears & smush his face.  What a handsome boy.  So many good vibes for him.

He looked a ton better last night and I went over this morning when i saw him rolling in the wet grass (an all time favorite  thing to do!)

I don't know if they will have to wean him off the tramadol or if he'll stay on it.  His back legs have definitely atrophied so I hope he gets well enough to get his walking in
