My friend is in court NOW (Wed 3:20 p.m..)

She came out long enough to call me -- she couldn't talk -- but she is on 2 years probation and can't have an animal AT ALL for 2 years.

AC doesn't want to let her animals be sent ANYWHERE and the implication is that they can be put to sleep tonight if a JUDGE doesn't sign an order today for them to go to the rescues that have already been lined up.

Many words come to mind, none of which I can post -- Will post when I know ANYTHING

good thoughts for your friend and all of her critters!

Good thots and lots of prayers.  This sucks.

Wow, hoping it works out for her.  My friend is an AC officer here and she would never want for an animal to be put down if not needed.

Wow. That really really sucks. I can't believe an animal control officer would WANT animals put down when they have rescues to go to. That's terrible. Tons of good thoughts are going out for your friend and her critters!

Miserable news. Truly glad she is not going to jail, but terrible that animals are in danger if there are alternatives. I feel helpless. Please let us know if there is anything we can do. What a crappy situation. Off to drink a Mike's :( Don't know what else to say and I'm rarely speechless.

I've sent each of you an email -- if anyone could possibly make a call to those numbers tomorrow just inquiring "when the animals will be put up for adoption" -- it will prove to them there is INTEREST and maybe they'd better not just be spiteful and mean because MAYBE SOMEONE CARES.

Email me if you want the numbers and don't have them.

Can you email us the description of the therapy dogs, etc. So when we call we know which ones we are asking about?
    • Gold Top Dog

This just sucks!!!  I emailed you a response!

I think we accomplished what we set out to do -- By afternoon they were telling people the case was apparently "not over" so they couldn't say anything.  They wanted to know "where you heard about this" and I think everyone gave great responses and **different** ones.

They know now that people tend to keep track of situations like this and we come from all over the place.  I talked with one woman for several minutes -- she wanted to know why we were interested from so far away.  I told her we'd already travelled to Texas to get a therapy dog and have also taken one from Animal Control in Jax Beach in Florida (from an ongoing domestic violence situation).  I said flatly "trained therapy dogs are valuable -- a dog who has been actively working in pet therapy .... who knows how to ignore things like the smell of medicine, people yelling or screaming inappropriately, the smell of urine, the clang of bedpans -- even ignoring food on the floor -- those are VERY important things to have a dog already trained in when you adopt them if you do pet therapy."
