    I Had No Intention...UPDATE

...of getting another hound!  But, even before I lost Fergie and Maska, I had been scouting around for a therapy dog prospect to train for a time when my beloved Sioux got too old to keep up her current pace.  She's ten, and while she is, hopefully, still healthy and vibrant, the gray around her muzzle, and her eyelashes, show me that my sweet girl is entering the same phase of life that I am - being a senior.  So, I often went poring through the petfinder files to see if I could find another herder with a sweet disposition.  The boy I wanted from ARPH was already adopted, and nothing else looked like it would be calm enough.  On one page, I did find one pretty dog, but I didn't get a good vibe.  So, stupid me scrolled down the rest of the page, and there at the end...was a dog that looked like Maska's twin.  Now, I never adopt dogs that look like my deceased dogs, and I never expect the newest dog in the household to be like the dogs in my past.  But, here was this big hound boy standing there, looking for all the world like he was already doing therapy work, and he was described by the shelter staff as "sweet" and GREAT (they used all caps).  Somehow, I just couldn't leave that boy in a high kill shelter in Georgia without trying to see if he would fit the bill.  Something told me to try.  So, today, the big hound boy in cage 301, living with a bunch of other neutered males in the same enclosure because the shelter is so pressed for space, will be evaluated as a therapy dog prospect for me.

PLEASE idoggers, send all the good idog vibes you can for a good evaluation today!!!!!!!!!  Get this boy out of there and up here to live with the bossy Aussies!

Meredith Minkin is doing the eval: http://www.yourcaninephd.com/About-Us.html

Having spoken with her, I'm sure she can handle it.  She'll pull some other shelter dogs to test him with, including females.  He's in a large group right now, where dogs are fed en masse, and he has neither injured anyone, nor been injured, and seems to be getting his share of the food.  We already know that he is stellar with people - everyone at the shelter loves this dog.
