Oh My!  Billy, you get better for your mum and stop scaring her.  Any word on the ultrasounds yet?  I don't really know what to advise other than what you probably already know....prot/crea ratio?  Herbal sups?  Diet switch? etc......yeah...I'd assume you already thought of all this.  My memory is bad lately but didn't you say before that the pred caused diabetic issues for Billy in the past?

My thoughts and prayers are with you Billy (& Callie/David).  Tink, you get better also.

Healing vibes all around and some big ole Canadian hugs.

grr -- typed an update and lost it.

Essentially they found nothing "horrible".  But both his kidneys and the liver have taken a huge beating from the steorids/steroid-like drugs and they have degnerated quite a lot.  Not "renal failure" but there is significant damage and a loss of the filtering power of the kidneys.

No lumps or masses seen (that's a big deal) -- and the obvious stuff that could cause the microalbuminaria to spike are nasties like tumors, and that sort of hting.

BUT .. it's likely that the recent inflammation he's had b/c of allergies have caused the kdineys not to work as well (yes, even regular vets agree this stuff happens) -- he feels GOOD so they are completely ruling out stuff like lepto and liver cancer (the liver looks pretty rough -- but again -- his body has been under some terrific seige lately.

What we're doing holistically is helping -- that's obvious.  So we keep on with what we're doing -- and ... frankly we pray and think good thots that we continue to do well.  He IS happy and he's feeling pretty darned good.  We're putting him on Clavamox to reduce the rest of the allergy reaction and help his body deal with that.  I hate to do it but it's what he needs now.

AND the vets (particularly the two holistic ones) are going to do some serious re-evaluation and try to make sure nothing is working against itself  (since he's got so many treating him)

Callie, I'm sure you know more than I do about supplements to help his kidneys, but I'll just pass along some info from the chapter about kidney disease in one of Monica's books. Co-enzymeQ10 can help; she suggests using it at the rate of 30 mg for every 20 pounds of body weight. Fish oil is beneficial too. I know you want to reduce his intake of protein, but she says not to go lower than one gram of protein per pound of body weight, or muscle wasting will occur. You can reduce the phosphorus in his diet by replacing some of the meat with egg whites.

I'll keep Billie in my prayers; he couldn't be in better hands than yours; {{{hugs}}}.

On the phosphorus note, can you use a phosphorus binder with dogs like they do with cats that have kidney problems?

Continued prayers for all of you.

He's already on Co-Q-1o ( she beat that into my head years ago LOL) -- *grin* and calculations are making my brain hurt tonight LOL
