These stories always break my heart . . . the poor, innocent animals suffer for so long, and even if authorities or animal welfare groups get involved, there always seems to be animals who perish because of illnesses/injuries that are too far gone or behaviors that are impossible to rehab enough to make the animals good adoption candidates. We just have to focus on the happy endings that come out of these situations when the animals are saved and find new, loving homes, and keep the less fortunate ones in our thoughts and prayers.
Too often, the humans in such cases end up repeating the same behaviors because it's like a compulsion for them. And even if the case goes to the courts and the person is given some kind of sentence, it's so hard to enforce any restrictions on animal ownership.
Good vibes for these sweet animals!
