    Good thoughts and prayers needed

A friend of mine called to tell me about a very sad case involving a woman who was operating as a rescue but was most likely a hoarder.  She was recently charged with over 20 counts of animal cruelty.  The 25 dogs in her home were seized.  She fed over fifty cats but most of them were outside cats.  My friend knew some of the dogs as she used to foster for this woman.   My friend is devastated at the thought of these dogs in a county shelter.  Many won't have a chance at adoption for various reasons.

Please send good thoughts for these dogs and cats.  They deserved so much more from the human they trusted.

We're sending good thoughts to all of those poor animals.  What a terrible situation.

That's such a difficult situation -- particularly when you used to work with some of the animals.  It's such a sad thing when someone slips over that "line" from "rescuer" to "hoarder" and often they *started* as a perfectly respectable rescuer.  One small decision leads to another -- and one concession "just to fit one more in" leads to a million others.

    *sigh* it's SO sad.

But you know -- it always comforts *me* (not to overstep here ... I'm not preaching) but when it says "His eye is on the sparrow" ... it makes me feel just a little better believing that nothing escapes notice .. I guess it's why I believe so firmly in Rainbow Bridge.

So sad when this happens.  It's always the animals that really suffer.  Hoping for a good outcome for as many of them as possible.  (Any Aussie therapy dog prospects in the bunch?)

I don't know, Anne.  My friend said this particular facility doesn't cooperate with rescues trying to pull dogs.  It's one of the reasons she's so upset.  The legal issues will have to be settled before any decision about the dogs is made.  Lets hope that some of them can be pulled and given a chance.

THIS is so much the truth. Because as sad as it is for these animals....and it is sooooooo sad......this lady was trying to help them. Somewhere along the line she went over the line...... but she did it most likely with a big heart...and along with being sad for the animals I think we need to be sad for this lady. Just my opinion.

I know a lady that did the same thing...she was the daughter of my moms best friend. There were very nice, well brought up old fashioned people, a couple living with their mother and eventually adopting another daughter..someone that needed a home. I think the cat in their house was the grandmothers. Eventually everyone died.... Diane was still in that house...all grown up and the neighborhood totally falling apart and quite dangerous.  She turned kind of " odd and different " and last I talked to her she had just gotten out of jail because her house was loaded with cats both inside and out.... she was told not to feed them or Hoard them.   When I spoke to her she said something to the effect that she will probably end up back in jail because no one there in that neighborhood takes care of their pets and they drop them off at her house because they know she will feed them.   Don't know what happened to her to be honest...... she was my age and used to call my house a whole lot.... but haven't heard from her.  A story about her was in our local big newspaper and it was weird to know that it was someone I actually knew well. That family was NOT the going to jail like of family...in the least...QUITE THE OPPOSITE!   But as "different" as she turned out, it was her heart that was trying to help the cats.....

I agree, Dyan.  It's a tragedy for the animals and for the lady involved.  I'm sure she never planned for it to get so out of hand and somewhere along the way she went from rescuer to hoarder.  She is in need of help too.

These stories always break my heart . . . the poor, innocent animals suffer for so long, and even if authorities or animal welfare groups get involved, there always seems to be animals who perish because of illnesses/injuries that are too far gone or behaviors that are impossible to rehab enough to make the animals good adoption candidates.  We just have to focus on the happy endings that come out of these situations when the animals are saved and find new, loving homes, and keep the less fortunate ones in our thoughts and prayers.

Too often, the humans in such cases end up repeating the same behaviors because it's like a compulsion for them.  And even if the case goes to the courts and the person is given some kind of sentence, it's so hard to enforce any restrictions on animal ownership.

Good vibes for these sweet animals!
