Thanks everyone. Basically it's what they thought. Whatever they vote in won't take effect until Feb 2012. Either they vote it down and shut down the plant, or they take it in the *** with huge job/pay/benefit cuts. They want to eliminate a bunch of employees, and hire a "casual workforce." No guaranteed hours, no benefits, no vacation, no union voting rights (but you still have to pay dues!), etc. They call you when they need you. Could be a month or two of work for a while, then no work for who knows how long, then work for a week or so... Rediculous. Either way he's out of a job. Sooooooo... I guess at least we have a timeline now. :\
