We are home. Poor Gaci has most of the fur shaved off both front legs, and she was just desperate to see me. She had a pee and poo as soon as we arrived home, and she had a minor freak-out over Shimmer in which she started to scream. It's the only word to describe it. She wasn't being aggressive, she was just so upset. She's okay now, I'm guessing it's the meds she's on making her a little wonky. She ate up her supper and I saw her have a big drink already, so I'm pleased with that.
She is on direct bedrest for 14-21 days. She's got a pain patch on her side for 5 days and is on Metacam for at least two weeks. That's just recovery time, then it will be rehabilitation time. Shoot me now. When I picked her up from the vet the only comment from the vet student was "she's going to be hard to keep quiet". No, really? She's a little firework ready to go off most of the time, by the time these 2-3 weeks are up I'm probably going to be on the meds!!
But no, really I'm just glad she's home. We're setting up her room now where she'll be when we're not home. It's half of a spare bedroom with nothing to jump on, lots of blankies and toys and things to hopefully keep her occupied. She's got a little T-shirt to wear over her patch when I'm not home, and the dreaded "collar" to keep her from picking at her two IV sites if I need it, which I probably will for at least tomorrow when I'm at work.
We'll see how the coming days go.
