The little black ninja-princess Gaci needs your best wishes. I had to make an e-vet visit with her today after I found her lying in a corner in the kitchen. She was quite lethargic, moved with great tension and hunch-back, and was quite distressed.
We did the "normal Gaci things" to rule those out....with her that is checking anal glands (nothing special), checked her for constipation (she had been before and required an enema) and we did a urinalysis to check for a bladder infection. She has ongoing anal-vulvar issues that she has had all her life. So we ruled those out. Her pulse and temp were normal, although she was a bit dehydrated, although nothing serious.
The vet knew she was in pain in her central abdomen-spinal area, so we did an ultrasound to make sure there were no stones present in her bladder. Then we moved on to xrays to check her spine and abdominal area. There were no apparent problems, and we could see her bowels were not filled up (just reinforced the "not constipated" thing).
So right now we are going on some sort of soft-tissue injury, and she is being monitored and given Metacam for a few days to see if that's the culprit. We discussed bloodwork but the vet didn't think it was really required at this point, based on her symptoms. At this point she is off all dog sports and heavy exercise, and limited activity. Boo. We have a trial in five weeks so I hope she'll be better, but I'm more concerned that she'll be alright and will not hesitate to bypass it if necessary.
So please send her some get-well wishes!!!
