    Prayers for Cricket the kitty

I was at work, and my Bf came over and said he had bad news, the neighbor had just came over and said that someone stopped and said they had hit a cat today. when they said it was a grey & white cat I knew it was my Cricket.  I immediatly came home and started looking for her, we looked everywhere, and confirmed that our other kitties were ok ( we have indoor/outdoor cats, we live in rural area). We looked for almost 2 hours solid. At one point we pretty much gave up and hoped she would turn up, just as we did my BF went inside and there was cricket walking across the living room. We looked at her, she definetly had been hit. but she was walking!!

I quickly crated her and we raced off to the vets. So far they say that there doesn't seem to be internal bleeding or any broken bones, except for a tail fracture. they're keeping her there overnight and tomorrow to see how she does, along with giving her some pain meds. Her prognosis is that she will most likely need her tail amputated.  there is concern that she may be incontinent too. The vet almost made it sound like euthansia might be an alternative if she is incontinent!! Crying I guess she has no anal tone - meaning her anus is completely relaxed.

So my little cricket needs prayers, I  really don't feel like incontinence should be a death sentence. I know she can get around fine without a tail. This is my favorite cat, my bed cat, she sleeps with me every single night. She usually doesn't leave the house. I don't know what made her venture out near the road today.  Please send my little Cricket Monster prayers.

Oh no.  Sending good vibes and praying for Cricket.  I had a sweet black and white cat named Cricket.  I think she must have whispered in my ear to check in here.  (((hugs)))

I just read this. it makes me feel a little bit better.

Cats with Lack of Tail Mobility and Sensation Plus a Dilated/Flaccid Anus (ie Zero Anal Tone)

This group of cats has about a 50% recovery rate, meaning about half of the cats with this description will eventually recover.

That's great news.  Come on Cricket, you can do it.  Your mom needs her cuddle kitty. I'm a big believer in being optimistic.  My husband beat 50% mortality odds not too long ago. :)

Fingers and paws crossed!  I have a soft spot for grey or grey and white animals.... So it will be easy to keep Cricket in my thoughts.  Get well soon, Cricket!

Cricket is doing ok this morning, she is not liking being at the hospital ( she's a very shy kitty). she hasn't urinated, but some came out with the help of the vet. Also sounds like she doesn't have much control over her bowel movements either. I know she has a 50% chance of regaining function. In the beginning the vet said that euthanasia could  an option, I don't think being incontinent should be a kitty death sentence.

Waiting to talk to my sis, then I'll call back & schedule tail amputation. the only concerns with leaving the tail on is since she can't move it, she'll soil it & there's a chance it can get caught on something else and injure herself more.

The vet also said a nurse there had a cat with a similar situation and after 6 weeks of 'help' urinating and defecating the kitty regained full control. So I really feel like she can recover. She also said at this point she still has zero anal tone, and hasn't eaten at all ( I know she's hating being there, this is a cat that spend 2 weeks in hiding when she came to live with me - she went from San Francisco apartment cat to 'farm' cat )

I've also been looking into 'kitty diapers' LOL but it sounds like she might be the opposite, needing help to do her 'duty'

Just talked to the vet again, she's really urging me to wait to amputate, just so I can see if helping her is something I can manage for both myself & cricket, since it'll be a huge lifestyle change. I'm gonna bring her home, I know if she has any possibility of recovering it's going to be at home where she is less stressed. They said that she is stable in all other areas, so she's ok to come home. I'm gonna set up an ex pen for her and try to make her as comfortable as possible.
