Good vibes headed Bailey's way for a good recovery and no bad stuff

The vet said the surgery went good, and it was pretty easy to get out. The biopsy results should be back sometime next week.

I was sitting in the waiting room when they brought him out, the second he saw me he tried to run and it looked like he was about to pull the poor lady's arm off. He did a second of the "OMGMYHUMANISHEREIMISSEDYOUSOMUCH" dance, and and got up onto my lap (yeah, my 70 pound dog was climbing up onto my lap, something he never does usually...) and collapsed on me, like he had just used all the energy he had. He looked at me and it was almost like I could HEAR him saying "I wanna go HOME"

On the ride back, he looked like a zombie. I had to lift him into the truck, normaly once he is in he will assume his position by the window, today he just kind of stood there. I told him to sit, and he did, but he was kind of acting on auto pilot. He kept wobbling side to side and almost falling every time we hit a bump or made a turn, so I had him lay down next to me on the seat. He put his head under my arm and and stayed like that for the rest of the ride. When we got home he deffinitely knew where we were, he sat up and looked sort of relieved. I carried him inside, he probably could have walked, but he looked like he was ready to pass out any second so I figured it would be easier for him. I layed him down on my bed, and he stayed there and slept for about 10 minutes before he got up. Now he is switching position every few minutes, he looks like he doesnt know where he wants to lay. I offered him water, but he didnt want any. Hes acting like he is STARVING. OK well, he always acts like he is hungry, dinner time is his favorite part of the day, but right now he is acting really, really hungry... should I give him a little something or wait a while?

His foot is shaved, and he has stitches. She said they will dissolve on thier own, but if they are still bothering him after 2 weeks then to bring him in so they can take them out. I got some stuff to wrap his foot with, she said that I can use that or use the boot, I will probably do both cause the boots do get wet/dirty from walking outside.

My poor boy... he looks horrible Sad

Aw, Bailey.  Good to hear the surgery went well.  I guess my vibes and prayers will be going towards a full and speedy recovery now!

You get better Bailey ....now's the time to be hitting mum up for some goodies!

I tried to bring him outside so he could do his business, but he wouldnt go. I thought he would need to pee cause he hadnt gone since this morning... but after I carried him outside and put him down near his favorite peeing spot, he just sat down and leaned against me. I carried him back inside and he just layed down on his bed again & went to sleep.

I have his foot unwrapped right now, he has absolutly no interest in doing anything other than sleeping, so Im not worried about him bothering it tonight.

Be cautious -- he WILL sleep it off and may wake up middle of the night.

Make sure you have ALL the water he wants to drink -- often they are extraordinarily thirsty for a couple of days after.

Aw Bailey! Glad to know the surgery went okay, good vibes that the biopsy shows it's nothing! I'm sure a certain doggie is getting extra cuddles tonight right? :P Give him kisses for me!

I ended up putting the boot on him in the middle of the night, just incase. He got me up at 4am, he deffinitely was giving me the "igottagoNOW" look. The light in the hall way is broken, so I didnt want to carry him down cause it was so dark... so I put his Ruffwear webmaster harness on, and used the handle to kind of lift up his back end and take a lot of pressure of that foot (he WAS walking on it, but I could tell he didnt want to)I carried him across the yard to his favorite spot & he peed.

This morning he seems a little more awake, but hes deffinitely not his normal self yet. He still doesnt want to drink anything... should I try to make him drink? I gave him a little food last night & he had no problems with it, and I just gave him a little more this morning with his medicine, but he still has no interest in drinking.

Very glad it went well.  It gets very tiring for the human part also.  Be aware that some dogs have been known to use the 'poor me' look to get extra treats and attention.  Some have been known to limp on the wrong foot to get a little more.

    • Gold Top Dog

Thats ok Bailey...you give all the "poor me" looks you can muster right now.  Rest, eat, get treats, go do your business then rest some more for a few days.

Continued good thoughts for you and your mama.

He may be one of those dogs smart enough to realize that if he drinks he'll have to go OUT.  so yeah I would give him water via syringe (like a baby medicine syringe -- hold his mouth loosely shut and put the tip of the applicator behind his canine tooth and squirt gently so he can work his mouth to swallow).

Try crushed ice ... sometimes they will chew ice not really realizing it's water.  But just a tiny wee bit of broth in it or even some regular (not nutrasweet) flavored yogurt -- that can entice them to drink or eat ice.

Add some water to his food even.

So glad that all went well and he is home safe and sound now!

Sleep lots Bailey and make sure you eat and drink so you get better OK
