Bugsy the Bull Terrier NEEDS your prayers (miranadobe)

    Hi  guys-

My very good dog friends, who recently lost their Giant Schnauzer, Leroy, are at the vet right now with their Bull Terrier, Bugsy. (He's the dog who was at Westminster a few years ago.)  He's screaming in pain and there's no explanation, despite consultations from 4 different vets regarding this condition in the past - they have no idea of the cause (everything from neurological issues to Lyme disease has been explored).  Usually, it's resolved with a couple of days of Tramadol, but last night/today is a different story.  I'm really, really scared for Bugsy.

    To quote her email directly:

"Bugsy, my male bull terrier, is right now up at the **** Veterinary Referral Hospital undergoing ultrasound, X-rays and blood work to diagnose intermittant pain that practically cripples him. These episodes have happened before. But a couple of days on Tramadol and he seems good as new. But not this time. We had Bugsy on the max dose of Tramadol and it was doing nothing for him.

So last night we took him up to the Emergency clinic. First time seeing him, they couldn't find any specific pain. The gave him a shot of morphine and sent him home. TWO HOURS later, Bugsy woke us screaming in pain. So he's back at the Vet hospital now for more tests.

We are desperatly hoping that they can at least find out what this is. All we want is to keep Bugsy comfortable. The poor dogs has been miserable these last few days.

Any and all positive energy sent his way will be appreciated."

****Please, please, let Bugsy get some relief from his pain, if morphine isn't even touching it!  PLEASE no more pain for Bugsy.*****  I'm in tears worrying about him, I just got a call from a mutual friend to make sure I knew.  This is very much NOT good.  Please spare a thought for Bugsy....

Paige --  call them and give them the URL for the Chi Institute http://www.tcvm.com -- and see if there is a good TCVM vet anywhere near.  IT IS A *COMPLETELY* different type of exam.  I have seen them do incredible things for painl as a result.  They don't do x-rays, etc. (altho bring those along) but truly they simply compare the blood flow from one area to another to identify where the problem is -- feel free to give them my email (and I'll email you my phone too) if it would help to talk to someone who has used it for years for sometimes mysterious stuff.  When you've got a dog you can't get answers to sometimes it can really help.

But ALSO you have my prayers and good thots for Bugsy -- in fact, I've got a lime green sticky going up on my printer right now!

Just because it might be relevant I am sending you this...it sounds similar and there's also a mention of a related condition that is found in older dogs...all my best to him,

Thanks ladies.  I have forwarded the links and asked her to take a close look at the Meningitis one you sent, Gina.  Thank goodness for those printer stickies! ;)  He's been experiencing episodes off and on for about a year and a half, and just turned 5 in November.  This seems to be above the norm, because his owner is a pretty stoic woman, so asking for prayers tells me they are worried.

    Here's a pic of him....

Gina-  I wanted to share with you Bugsy's owner's response to your link.  I'm swallowing tears, so I can't type, just gonna copy/paste:

"Paige!!!! This sounds very promising!! Finally, something that at least sounds like what is going on!! You can be sure I am contacting the Veterinarians on the case. Though not the greatest thing to have, and treatment may need to continue in order to prevent relapses, at least prognosis is good! Part of the problem is that Bugsy is very stoic. He tries to be as normal as possible no matter what. We're waiting on blood tests to rule out anemia and possible ulcers. But I wanted to thank you for this link. From sudden onset to relapsing this SRMA description is the closest thing to what Bugsy is experiencing. Thanks so much!!"
