    New puppy has parvo (miranadobe)

Hi guys- need some strong idog prayers for my friend's puppy.  She adopted her this weekend, from a group that transported her from New Mexico up here to Colorado, after some hunters found her in the desert there.  She went to the regular vet yesterday, but last night she started vomitting and had diarrhea so badly, they took her to the emergency vet to learn she has parvo.  She is "not critical" at this point, so perhaps the supportive care she gets from the vets will be her biggest asset, that and her new owners who will do whatever it takes to make sure she's ok.  (They just blew through $1500 in tests and overnight care in less than 12 hours.)  She's roughly 4 months old, a Lab/shepherd mix.  Here is her pic.  Her name is Mora, which is Spanish for Blackberry.  PLEASE send some strong vibes for Mora to overcome her illness.

Paige -- I just send you a list of stuff you can give her (I *think* I'm brain-alive enough to remember you work in a health store??).

They *develop* this -- it's viral and it's nasty, nasty -- so give her all the typical warnings and cautions about understanding that the shoes they've had on in the last few days are TRASH -- and to keep a SEPARATE pair in the car so you don't walk away and spread parvo.  Particularly over a holiday weekend when everyone is visiting everyone??? eww bad stuff.

But I sentcha a list -- and my numbers.  I don't have kids and except for some insanity tomorrow nite, Davey and I will be home and I don't mind getting a call even in the middle of the night.  Helping folks trying THIS hard to help  a dog (who so far has had both the toughest it can but also some darned cool Good Samaritans) -- well that just sounds like a good  thing to do on a Holiday of Peace and Good Will to *me*.

What a rough start to their lives together. I'll definitely be thinking good vibes for Mora and her new family.

I work for a Whole Foods wannabe, and they sell every little herb, homepathic tincture you could imagine!!!  I'm off to go check for that email, THANK YOU Callie.  I told her you would be there with bright ideas on ways to help Mora through this!!  Callie, you are a god send to so many dogs.... I'm tearing up thinking of how giving you are.  YOU are full of Christmas Spirit all throughout the year.  GIANT CHRISTMAS HUGS to you!!

Thank you everyone for the good thoughts and wishes for Mora.  I do believe this is a powerful group - it's been proven before, time and time again.  I BELIEVE!

Hang in there Mora (love the name).  Sounds like you have some very wonderful caring people taking care of you now.  Plus, any dog that has Dr. Callie on board can't go wrong.

Sending strong healing vibes and prayers just for you.

So for anyone and everyone -- Heel brand's "Engystol" is AWESOME for anything viral -- it's a homeopathic (under the tongue, let it dissolve, don't take with food or drink -- 3-5 times a day while you're fighting something)

Also for anything viral -- combine echinacea (and goldenseal if it's sinus/respiratory) with St. John's Wort (and double the normal human dose of both FOR a human -- just don't take it long term -- a week at most).

St. John's Wort usually is thot of as a sertonin/prozac kind of herb -- but it's BEST use is actually as an anti-viral.  It's darned good for that.  But combined with echinacea it's pretty powerful to fight colds if you get smacked.

Well, the emergency vet said she was a "strong positive", yet the paperwork (and a vet tech) said "weak positive"... Gotta presume the vet is right, right?  She spent last night with the director of the rescue in order to give her a better environment for immediate care in a comfortable place, and it did her good, because although she wouldn't eat or drink at the hospital, she drank down some electrolyte stuff and ate a small meal with the director and was somewhat brighter.  She did well overnight with no vomit and somewhat loose poops, but nothing like the explosive stuff she had yesterday, soooo....

She's coming HOME FOR CHRISTMAS!!!  Her daddy is picking her up at 9am this morning, so she will spend Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, and beyond with her new family.

Still feeling a bit doubtful as to what was really going on.  Could she have had a weak strain of it, and super immune system kicked it?  Don't know, and keeping a watchful eye treating as if she still has parvo, weak or not.  I'm thankful for the good energy and amazing support from this forum!  Will keep you posted.  PUPPY HOME FOR CHRISTMAS = YAY!
