Husband Surgery update

    Thank you Tracy and Cathy!
Frank took a half of pain pill during the night last night,,, a muscle relaxer the night before...but not taking anything during the day. Today we took the outside bandage off...and I was proud of myself,,,I didn't pass out!  LOL! HOWEVER,,, do you know how hard it is to help him get those stupid long elastic stockings on that he has to wear for 6 weeks??? Holy Toledo..... that was tough!   I told him he would have to hire someone next time!  LOL!
He asked about physical therapy, and doctor said IF HE NEEDS IT,,,but will figure that out after the first month or so.
Since he is not taking pain medicine,,he CAN move around pretty good...slowly but good.  I told him to stay close to walls and the kitchen sink and places like that...with Bubby around. I worked today and was worried but all was well. I work part time but Monday is my long day.
He tires quickly,,but is trying to sit up and walk more each day to regain his strength.

Dyan - I'm really so glad to hear that he's doing so well.  The fact that he needs so little in the way of pain meds is a very positive sign.  I'm no Dr., let alone his Dr., but I know that the physical therapist who came to my friend's home shortly after the surgery, was a huge part of the healing process for her.  I think she came twice a week for about 4 weeks and got my friend doing just the right exercises to help her recover.  I just wanted to mention that since I think that I'd be one to wonder if this or that was safe to do. I know that Sharon was often told "don't even try to do that again" or "you should be doing this exercise 4-5 times per day".  She said she always felt better after her appt's with the physical therapist.  Everyone is different, but I just thought I'd mention it.  My friend did not have as surgery as extensive as your husband's (no surgical hose.  good thing, since I know her DH would've never been able to master those [;)]), but she did have an 8-10 week recovery time.

    Thanks Cathy.
DH is in a body cast,,,and can't really even bend. He is to have it on always except for when in bed. He is not to lift anything more than a gallon of milk. He is to walk as much as he can and can walk steps.  All this until one month after the surgery date when he will go to get an exray to see how its doing. He has 2 screws and they grafted from him back, they want to make sure it holds before he can do anything.
I appreciate you telling me about your friend, it helps a lot! Thank you!

    Great news....!!!!!!!!
So happy he's home and on the mend...
My brother just had abdominal surgery and took a lot of Morphine...he was hallucinating about being on stage with KISS...

Keeping him in our thoughts and prayers...
Is Bubby being extra gentle with him?

Wow, great news.  I know that when I had my neck surgery, the neck didn't hurt....but the harvest site sure did.  I'm really impressed that he's taking so few meds.....I lived on the super strength vicodin for a few weeks!

DS wore his back brace at nite for a few weeks since he was afraid he'd move funny in his sleep and cause a problem.  A really nice muscle relaxer he might want to think about is skelaxin.  It doesn't go through the central nervous system so it doesn't knock you for a loop like most do.  I got turned on to it from my sister with MS....her nuero is very careful what meds she gives her and Sis shared one day when I was visiting since I couldn't take a flexeril and still function.  That stuff is GOLD.

Now in a week or so, he's going to start feeling GOOD and then the fun begins....keeping him from doing stuff he shouldn't do until he's fully healed!

Continued prayers, good thots and healing vibes heading your way...and some gsd kisses as well!

Thanks guys!  Callie, your right!  I am kind of feeling a little "alone" in that I keep worrying about what I have to do next...between him and my sister who just lost her husband  on Jan. 1, and is now by herself and calls me 3 times a day, work and the fact that I can not get rid of my cold...although its getting better little by little. Bubby knocking into him is also a worry,,,she's is a typical "leaner" and if you tell her to stay away, she feel bad and then buries her head into you,,,REAL HARD!  So I told him to stay close to a wall, or something like the kitchen sink, just something to steady himself if he needs it.

My brother just had abdominal surgery and took a lot of Morphine...he was hallucinating about being on stage with KISS...

Ha,,, thats a worry, but at least you can get a smile out of that worry!  lol!
Glenda, I will write the name of that medication down.  Right now he has Percoset (sp??) and Vistaril as a muscle relaxer. He takes a Visteril before going to bed at night,, but last night woke up about 3 or 4 and took a half of Percoset. When he took a whole one it made him kind of sick.   He stiffens up so much at night in bed...but doesn't take anything during the day. THAT is good since he is awake and alert while I have to be away.
Pretty much things are going as good as can be expected. I am so very grateful for that!  If I wasn't a worry-wort though, I myself would be a better care giver.
