Husband surgery

I'm glad the surgery went off okay.  Now it's recovery time.  Good vibes for a speedy recovery.

Can't believe they didn't have a room for him after surgery (I guess someone that was to leave hadn't been picked up yet) so they never called me down to recovery or anything, until I spoke up a few times and parked myself in front of the surgery desk.

This same thing happened to me last spring when I had a partial thyroidectomy.  I hung out in the recovery room until every last patient was gone.  I got to know the recovery room nurse so well, I felt like we were friends [:D].

I'm really glad that they were able to do the surgery.  The pre-surgery waiting is the hardest part, so at least that's behind you.  I hope the recovery goes smoothly and I wish you both all the strength and patience you need to get through the next few months.

    Thank you folks!
Yes, a big part of the worst is over. I hope anyway. It won't be easy with recovery....I'm really worried about Bubby banging into him and all,,,,she tends to "take over" sometimes.  And not doing anything or going anywhere will be taxing on our marriage for a while....[:o]
but we'll get thru it,,,we have to.    I am just so happy that the worry of what can go wrong during surgery is over,,,and of course the horrible waiting which we have been doing since about the beginning of Nov...all with his pain getting worse.
They told him he should be able to come home on Friday already...as long as things keep looking alright. Here's hoping.

Dyan - I know I've mentioned it before, but both my best friend who had surgery in Nov., and another friend's husband who had the same surgery as your husbands, were very concerned that they didn't feel more relief for some time after the surgery.  Just wanted to mention that again since I think it can be disheartening to expect to feel better and maybe feel a bit worse for awhile.  I hope the release from the hospital goes as planned.  Don't forget to take good care of yourself thru all this too.  It easy to forget that you need some extra TLC, but if you have friends and family that can help, be sure to let them.

    Thank you Cathy!
Right now this biggest complaint with pain is his side because they grafted a bone from there,,,in his back.  He hasn't mentioned pain from anywhere else....YET!
The stanosis that he had might have played a big role in his pain,,,they removed a lot of stuff (whatever) from the spinal column, they said it had the nerve in his spine almost flattened....I would suppose THAT caused a lot of pain. We'll see,,,it will be tough.

DS #1 has one of those braces....it's like a hard plastic CORSET.  Not real comfy.....he wears a tshirt under his to keep it from rubbing his skin raw.

Now, you won't want to hear this, but.  The bone graft site for my neck surgery is in the right hip.  I woke up feeling like an ax was sticking out of my hip and almost 8 years later, that danged hip still bothers me, especially when the weather is going to change.  Please don't let him believe the surgeon that his hip/side/where ever will have forgotten all about the assault in six months.  It doesn't happen.

The others are right.  DO give yourself some TLC now too.

Yep,,you described that about 100%!  Did DS have to get it made espiecially for him as mine?

So do you suggest something for the pain from the bone graft:
Man thats all I need,,,go from one hard pain to another.

Yep, DS had his custom made.  Truly, get DH some tshirts that are smallish.....you dont' want a ton of fabric under the thing so you don't want the loose kind like I wear.....not tight, but a little snug.

I still have vicodin for the shoulders and if the hip is REALLY bad, then I'll pop one.  For the most part I've gotten used to it and rarely use them.  And, for the most part it's ok, but I really notice it when we've got some major weather changes coming.  Every now and then I'll go to get up and it feels like I've been stabbed...I just let out a little startle and go on my way......you do get used to it, but it can surprise you....

Thanks for the heads up Glenda!
The doctor or the place that makes the brace told him to wear tee shirts,,,so he went and bought some more. Actually, DH ALWAYS wears a tee shirt....he makes me crazy,,,he wears on under every shirt he puts on,,,including when its 96 degrees outside,,,under a golf shirt on a hot golf course. Says it makes him cooler,,,and it probably does because it absorbs the sweat.
