I think we accomplished what we set out to do -- By afternoon they were telling people the case was apparently "not over" so they couldn't say anything. They wanted to know "where you heard about this" and I think everyone gave great responses and **different** ones.
They know now that people tend to keep track of situations like this and we come from all over the place. I talked with one woman for several minutes -- she wanted to know why we were interested from so far away. I told her we'd already travelled to Texas to get a therapy dog and have also taken one from Animal Control in Jax Beach in Florida (from an ongoing domestic violence situation). I said flatly "trained therapy dogs are valuable -- a dog who has been actively working in pet therapy .... who knows how to ignore things like the smell of medicine, people yelling or screaming inappropriately, the smell of urine, the clang of bedpans -- even ignoring food on the floor -- those are VERY important things to have a dog already trained in when you adopt them if you do pet therapy."
