Really Need All of You This Time...UPDATE 8/13

    • Gold Top Dog

I am not familiar with lepto but I am so very happy that it is not cancer.  Anne {{Hugs}}  I know how hard it is to comfort our babies when their routines are changed.  We also live in the quiet countryside and our boys are couch/tv potatoes during this hot summertime.  Any disruption is difficult.  Maska, hurry up and get better so you can go back home and get some rest!

    • Gold Top Dog

Oh, poor Maska!  But, on the positive side, no cancer and that's a HUGE good thing!  And I second that...hurry up and get better Maska, so you can get home and get some rest!

No cancer is good! I don't know much about lepto either but I hope that he will pull through pretty quickly.

    He is positive for leptospirosis

Oh no!  That is one of those things that they can pick up soooo easily in that neck of the woods, no matter how hard you try.  It's everywhere around New England, it seems.  (NOTE TO GLENDA - get your dogs vaccinated against it, if you can!!)
    • Gold Top Dog

    Feel better soon, Maska!

    • Gold Top Dog

I'll say what everyone else has -- lepto is no fun, but honestly it was a sensible decision (and who knows the adverse effect a vaccine at that time could have had??? lepto is actually better than auto-immune!!)  Not good but treatable!!  and way better than other stuff.

Anne -- I so wish I could give you a hand -- but I'm glad you were close to Tufts enough to go and they FOUND it!!

    • Gold Top Dog

     I hope Maska recovers quickly Anne; {{{hugs}}}

Jessie is vaccinated for Lepto because she spends a lot of time in creeks, lakes, and rivers because we like to hike, so that increases her risk.

    • Gold Top Dog

I'm so happy that it's treatable!

So glad things seem to be turning around for Maska and he looks like he's going to be OK. Smile

I am so glad to read that it's not a cancer diagnosis!  I hope he's one the mend now and that he's doing well at home for the night(I saw your FB post)  I had no idea Lepto was this much of a concern around here, great. . .

How's Maska making out?  Is he home now?

Good thoughts and prayers coming his way.

    • Gold Top Dog

He is home, but he was discharged because he wouldn't eat and they thought he might do better with me on supportive care.  Last two days were horrendous - he turned his nose up at everything.  Yesterday, I got them to prescribe an appetite stimulant, and he managed, last night to drink some kefir and eat a few small pieces of chicken, plus drank some broth from a can of chicken soup.  Blood work again tonight to see how bad his liver is.

    • Gold Top Dog
I hope he feels better soon, Anne. Do you think milk thistle would help him? I've just ordered two pounds of it, and I'd be happy to ship you one just as soon as I get it.
    • Gold Top Dog

All our prayers go out to you! Hugs from Bonnie and me.

I'm unfamiliar with lepto -- it sounds scary.  I'm glad to hear Maska is home.  Trying to get an unwilling dog to eat and drink is so hard.  Hopefully being at home and the comfort of familiar spaces (and caregivers!) will make things easier.  Sending good vibes to you and to Maska!
