Please keep a thought for an old dog

In the center column, 4th picture down, she has no name, but says under her pic "sweet old girl has some medical issues"  http://www.midmichiganadopt-a-pet.com/id15.html

She was in the overnight drop at the shelter when we got there yesterday.  I'm not really sure if she is just grossly overweight or there is something else going on.  She has a mass on her shoulder and one on her abdomen.  She can barely stand or walk because her back legs are extremely weak.  She hasn't had her nails cut in ages, until I and another volunteer did it yesterday, but their condition has clearly affected her ability to get around.  Her ears are seriously inflamed inside. She was still eating and drinking, wanted her belly rubbed, and when I stopped petting her, she pawed at me insistently, as if to say "don't stop".  She went a little nuts barking at one of the shelter cats.  She's obviously got heart despite the neglect she has suffered.

Someone loved her at some point.  She's tattooed inside her ear. There was a collar on her recently enough that the hair still had the indentation of it.  If I had to guess, she was turned in so the owner didn't have to make the choice to let her go.  Unfortunately she was turned in as a stray and will have to linger 7 days til she can be released from her troubles.  I'm so incredibly sad and angry at the same time.  There's nothing I can do for her - she can't get around and I can't lift her; the extent of her medical issues is beyond my financial capabilities.

It's not easy to tell from the picture, but she has a face very similar to Agnes's.  How could someone do this to such a sweet dog?

Please pray that her last days are merciful and she can be free of her struggles soon.

I shouldn't have looked at her picture!  I just do not get how someone can do this.  I won't ever get it.  Is there ANY chance at all whatever is going on is treatable, Tina?

    Honestly I don't know, Lori.

will keep her in my thoughts - she looks super sweet Sad

(I couldn't get too close to Daisy Duke or Nestle!)

I shouldn't have looked either  . . . . she does look very much like my dear, sweet Agnes.

I just hope she goes peacefully.

God bless her -- people can be such cowards.  Old Girl is in my prayers and thots now ...

Sad - How very, very sad. No dog should spend their final days like this. I will pray that either something miraculous happens or her days there aren't too stressful.

poor old girl, I hope whoever dropped her off had some very good personal reasons and it wasn't just a matter of being inconvenienced by an old dog with health problems.   Sending her some good vibes.

I shouldn't have ever opened that link!!!  She has such a sweet little face.  Too bad there wasn't a way to get her looked at by a vet.

Alright....I'm totally disgusted and upset now!

My thoughts and prayers are with her and her sweet adorable face.

Sweet Old Girl. May she have lots of belly rubs every day! Prayers and long distance rubbies from us!

Johnny, she will likely be seen by a vet but considering her age and the potential scope of her problems, well, she may not be a priority.  They do the best they can, but are not in the position to save them all...yet.

Thanks for the thoughts for her.  Am going over at lunch time to spend some time with her, even though it may only be a half hour.

Tina, if you can, would you give the poor girl some skritches from me?  My heart is breaking that she was a drop off.  How cowardly of her people.  Shame on them.  She at least deserves to have some lovins during her last days.  I pray that her passing is speedy & painfree.  Poor girl.

I thought that, too, at first, but Old Girl seems to have been with people for such a long time... so I wondered if perhaps her people had themselves become ill, frail, evicted, or something else. It's so hard to know, but at least they didn't just leave her abandoned somewhere without care. I ditto the skritches request and an extra cookie, if possible, from Frisby, too.

Ann and Kate, I will definitely pass on the skritches to the old lady dog.
