So glad she is home; and hoping she mends quickly.  Sending good healing thoughts your way.

My doc has never hesitated to do what is necessary even if I have to pay it out!

Ditto for Frisby's regular vet. They are very generous about working with people who can't pay everything all at once. And, they wouldn't even LET me pay on the day when I had to put my beloved Springer Cecilia to sleep. They said to come back when I felt up to it. I really appreciated that. The specialist hospital  Frisby has gone to is another story completely--at least from what I've seen and in my experience. I've had to pay 50% of the estimated costs up front for every hospitalization (even as a repeat customer).

I'm so glad Tessy (now we'll call her "Ms. Wiggle Butt";) is feeling a bit better! Keep healing, Tessy!

I'm not even near as angry as I was that day!   :)   Maybe I'm letting things get to me a little too much lately.  No vet though should put money ahead of a pets well being and health.  When we took Tessy in and they said what was wrong they gave a quote for the price and ASKED if I wanted it done.  Looking back now they meant if I couldn't afford it then it wouldn't be done!  To me, that's FAR from right!

Nice Kate!  I likes!  I call her wiggles all the time and it always seems to make her wiggle more!

I'm just now reading this Johnny, I'm glad to get in on the end of it....the part where she is home Wink

My friend just went thru pancreatitis with her dog over Christmas season...scary stuff.   They didn't keep her over night...and it might have been better if they had. Donna was up all night for a few nights, and it took a long time before she was really better. She has been eating Hills presciption diet since.

About your vet...yes...thats exactly what they meant when they gave you a quote.  WHAT CAN YOU AFFORD???    But you know..... having put out so much to that vet lately.... just seems they should cut you some slack.  I worked as a receptionist for 4 years at a vet clinic...and have to say that she got screwed so many times because of people not paying that I feel for them ALSO.  She at least would make out a payment plan. It wasn't a good one....it was something like it had to be paid off in a few weeks.....but at least it was something.......at least you didn't have to be faced with not taking your dog home for Gods sake!  She never threatened to not let anyone take the dog...she would just turn them over to collections. I don't blame you at all for being angry, but look at it this way, Tessy is better and thats what counts.  When she is out of the woods for sure, you can take her to another vet.  And heck with that one!

That's all that matters right now!  They weren't too impressed when I started pointing out the fillers in the Hills food they gave me!  I asked if it was possible to home cook for a dog with pancreatitis and they got half rude about it!  Absolutely NOTHING but the diet they prescribed!!!  LOL

A pancreatic diet is temporary -- low fat is the big deal.  (and no dairy -- Dr. D was never able to really tell me why dairy is so upsetting other than the fact it's just plain an irritant)

This is pancreatitis caused by an infection -- you'll always have to be somewhat careful but this isn't likely a life-long besetting thing.

Yeah, they really stressed the no dairy with me also.  They only gave a weeks supply of antibiotics.  Is this the norm I wonder?

I just tried to call Donna to ask her but her line is busy.  I will email her.   But I do know that one vet at first told her that she could eventually try a low fat Science Diet or one of them.... but eventually she and the other doctor she saw said NO...prescription food only and for the rest of Freeways life.  And they just keep adding " and no people food!"

Usually in MY experience they're on antibiotics for AT LEAST three weeks and Man I'd ASK for them -- you do NOT need her to rebound.
