A friend of mine is having a terrible time with her two rottweilers. The female is a bit older and the dominant dog in the house, 3 years I think, and the male is 2.
Ever since she got the male, the female has nipped/bitten the back of his legs. At first the male would yipe when she did it, then he started just sitting down when she came around him.
She does it for no reason, other than maybe being a bully. She does it if he is in her way, she does it if he does somthing she doesn't like, ect.
My friend has tried to verbally correct her female, but the dog is so fast, just all the sudden she nips the male.
Well, the male is tired of it and has turned around a few times and nipped back. My friend thought that maybe this would end the issue. Nope, the female is still doing it.
Two nights ago the female did it and the male whipped around and bit her face, leaving an 1 1/2 inch gash by her eye. A few hours later the female was nipping his heels again.
My friend doesn't know what to do. Two fighting rottweilers would not be a good thing.
She had posted this issue on another forum and got really mixed answers and no one on the forum could agree what would help with the problem.
A few members had suggested a "time out" when she nipps him, but other dog trainers said that wouldn't do any good. Someone else suggested keeping her on a leash, but that was confusing too.
I suggested using an e-collar and when it looked like she was goign to nip, my friend should give the "leave it" command, and if she doesn't turn away or ignore him, then she should "give him a little buzz".
Many people thought that this would increase the likelyhood of a fight because the female may think the male bit her, but I had a friend who did this for another issue between her dogs and it worked great. The e-collar she had didn't hurt, it was a wierd buzzing feeling.
Obviously my girlfriend needs to do somethign right away as this has gotten out of hand.
This forum is much more open to various ideas, so what do you guys think?
