    Trying to bite the iron

Wondered if any one of you have a dog that doesn't like it when you iron clothers.  By Bubblegum actually goes after the iron, I've heard those teeth hit metal more than once....and I'm watching her carefully.   As soon as I get out the ironing board, she runs into the kitchen where I set it up to iron, so I can see the TV also.  She stares at it,,,and if I have a lot to iron she finally does lay down on the little rug that is by my sink,,,, but she still watches it carefully. I can't tell if its the steam coming out..or just the metal...or shine. She does stare at moving light,,,glares off of something shiny,,, or lights moving,,,she was exercised by lazor lights at her breeders.  I mean I really have to watch her to keep her from getting herself hurt.
Any one else have a dog like this???
I finally took a couple of pictures a few weeks ago when I was ironing!

Can't help you much with behavior issues Dyan, but just wanted to say how ridiculously cute bubblegum is :)

What do you do when he does that? just watch him?

Dyan, does your iron make that little hissy sound?  Maybe Bubby thinks it's alive! [:D]

I'm ironing,,,she is watching the iron.  When I bring out the board, she is the first one into the kitchen waiting for me to put it up,, of course I don't think she likes the screetchy noise the ironing board makes when I put it up or down. But if she looks like she is going to bite the iron,, I do tell her no and tell her to lay down.  Then sometimes she feels bad that she got in trouble so she lays her head on my clothes I'm ironing... sometimes with slobber hanging from her mouth..... OH, how disgusting!!!  LOL!
Ann, yes your right about the steam hissing sometimes...usually when that starts she does jump back up if she had been laying.  I can't make out if she is trying to protect me from the big bad iron,,,or what.  She IS a corker, that I can tell you.

What you need to do when you think is about to bite the iron is put the iron down and address the behavior, you walk in between him and the iron and just say "no", stay right there as much time you need to not to pay attention to the iron anymore, that way you are letting him know that iron is yours and that you dont like him to touch it,, make sure he takes you seriously every time and that you also address the behavior every single time, it can not be one time yes and one no

Don't have any ideas regarding the iron issue, but I just had to say:  My God that dog is gorgeous!  How to you avoid giving in to her every whim? [;)]

Omg, the dog is almost saying "Ok, ok, take your pictures, and then let me get back to the iron,ok?"[:D][:D]

My first thought was "You iron your clothes?"  I've stopped buying clothes that need dry cleaning or ironing.  Just aint gonna happen.

Sounds like you have a good excuse NOT to iron.

Ironicly, my iron is out all the time since I dabble in fiber arts/quilting.

Yeah,,,,,,,,,,,,I still iron once in a while.....especially khaki pants,,, they almost always look like garbage......

My God that dog is gorgeous!  How to you avoid giving in to her every whim? [;)]

Thank you!  Its hard to not spoil her,,,first of all she demands attention,,,so  I do the "nothing in life is free" thing......MOST of the time!

I think Bubblegum is just gorgeous....love her face..No idea about the iron issue

wow, you iron???? go buy some of these lovely wrinkle-free/ stain free khakis they sell nowadays.
I'd just shut her out of the room. One of my dogs thinks the vacuum cleaner is an enemy to be defeated and killed, and since we vaccum as infrequently as possible we figure it's not worth trying to re-train the dog-- just put the dog outside during vacuuming.

Gosh, that sounds dangerous.  Do you really mean she is trying to bite the iron while it's hot?  And laying her head on the ironing board near the hot iron?

Honestly, if you can't keep her on a down stay while you are ironing, I'd put her in another room while you do it.  You could work up to a longer down stay by starting with short pretend ironing sessions and working up to longer periods.  But I'd really hate to see that gorgeous dog burn herself (or you) by touching the hot iron or knocking it to the ground.

I'm in the "no iron" camp. I can't remember the last time I used mine. But those pictures are priceless! I bet it's the hiss and sputter. Gracie HATES my floor cleaner, it's one of the flip things that vacuums on one side and the squirts and squeegees on the other. She climbs over the back of the couch to get away from it, so I just put her outside when I use it. Tookey, the little dog, takes no c**p from appliances, so he stays behind to bark at it.

Ironing (no that it happens very often) is one of the very few things that I have decided not to do with the dogs around (moreover, moving the ironing board in the library allows me to forget about it much more easily [;)]).
I did it a couple of times with them, they were fine lying down at my feet or a bit farther away but I thought "what if". I would just hate myself too much if one of them got burned and since they can move from a sleeping position much faster than I can react, I'd rather play it safe. The pictures are priceless though. Bubblegum is irresistible.
