Pee'd in her crate!

    Pee'd in her crate!

Misty has never pee'd in her crate....she is 18 mos old now.  A few nights ago, she just didn't want to settle down and I was up till the wee hours trying to figure it out.  Never did look at her blankie.  She was fine the two nights that followed, and then tonight, I could barely get her to go in the crate.  Usually, she goes right in without me even asking.  I got her in but she stayed in the corner away from the blanket, so I looked and there was a giant (cold, so it was from this morning, I guess) wet spot and another old urine stain....probably from a few days ago.  Twice this week, she has been in there longer than usual...normally, she gets taken out early, but the one day was a holiday, so everyone slept in, longer than usual...and today, I was pretty sure she got taken out early (I was in bed sick)...but I may be wrong about that.  She has been licking down there more, and seems to have been thirsty today.  I am just not sure if this was because she needed to go out (but why didn't she let us know?????  She always cries or barks) and just couldn't hold it anymore, or if she has a UTI.  Bummer that tomorrow is Saturday...all I can do is observe and hope she is ok.  The emergency vet is $90 just to be seen.  Should I try cranberry? I will definitely take her first thing Monday am if I notice anything else.  She has not urinated in the house at all, and I would think if she had a uti her pee accidents wouldn't be isolated to the blanket.  Also, what will work on the blanket (comforter) to get the pee smell out?  I was going to try white vinegar and baking soda....OR....bleach.  I am out of nature's miracle.  Either that, or I'll toss it altogether.

Do the days she had the accidents coincide with the days that she was left in the crate later than usual?

It could be that she just got left in too long or has a UTI, but there is one other possibility to consider if you rule those other two things out.  She could be spay incontinent.  Sometimes, spayed females have a relaxation of the little sphincter muscle that holds the urine in - so it basically just spills out, most often while the dog is sleeping, or just as she awakens.  If it turns out that she is spay incontinent, there are inexpensive medications that can help.  Petastic is the best thing I've found to take the urine smell out of the blanket.  If you can't find that, try Simple Solution or Nature's Miracle.
