I know some of the hands-on will scoopin' the poop. A kennel with a couple of teams will generate some piles. Then, there's cooking and dishing out food. Some mushers feed a hi-octane kibble but many times, a team is fed home-cooked meals that are monitored by a vet. But it sounds like a lot of fun. One thing they must teach you is how to judge the temperments of dogs together. Not all dogs get along with each other, it's just a fact of life. So, don't pair two on the gangline that will fight each other.
I remember one team that was doing well in a race and the first few dogs smelled a rabbit and immediately diverted off course. That could be part of the fun.
It's sounds like a lot of fun, all in all. However, you can also work as a handler for a racing team. The pay stinks but you get a crash course in sled dog management and little sleep. Because no one sleeps until the dogs are taken care of.
