got a new puppy, not getting along with my old dog

hi, i have a cavalier king charles thats 1.5 years old. i left her at my parents house, recently i got another cavalier, who is male and 4 month old.. today i brought my older dog back to my place and introduced them to each other for the first time. so far the older dog kinda runs away from the younger one and seems nervous around him. the younger one is pretty hyper and trying to approach the older dog.

will they get along and be friends? how do i make them comfortable around each other? Smile

You have to give it time. They won't love each other over night.

Take them for some walks together. Then take the older dog on a walk by himself without the pup.

Give the older dog some special attention to make sure he knows that he is still loved and still a part of the family.

Place chase games with both of them and so on.

the younger one is pretty hyper

Walks together are perfect for them to bond, i would burn first some of that extra energy on the younger first so the oldest does not get annoyed by it, before the walks together or any other time you are planing for them to spend together, also teaching the younger one not to be hyper around the old one will help

how do i make them comfortable around each other?

You can do a bit of classical conditioning.  Feed the dogs by hand together (be careful not to spill any food treats where they will have the opportunity to go for them at the same time - you could cause a tiff).  They will each learn that good things happen when they are in each others' presence.  Praise them for being quiet and calm.
