    Crazy poop run

We have a 8-month old Shih Tzu. At first I thought he was schizophrenic or bi-polar or something because on occasion he'd INSTANTLY go from calm to super-hyper, running around the house at full speed - back and forth - jumping, barking, etc. In other words, he turns into a wild monster for a period of time! However, we've now caught on that this behavior normally occurs right before (or right after) he takes a poop. Now, when he starts running like crazy, we just casually refer to it as his "poop run." However, I'm curious why he does this? Is there any chance he has a health problem that is causing him pain when he poops? If it represents a possible risk to him, then of course we want to have him looked at by a vet. However, if not then I'd hate to take him to a professional just to say "he runs when he poops." Any thoughts?

    don't think there's a problem
mine goes out in the morning and wanders around, poops then runs like a madman
we have just over an acre and he runs around the whole area over and over.
This is always after a poop
Just happy to feel lighter I guess!

Typical shih tzu behavior!  We call them Zoomies or the ShihTzu 500.  He still does this from time to time and he's 3 years old.  I love watching him go from 0-100 in seconds!

This made me laugh out loud!!

My dog does the crazy poop run! I watch her from the window in the morning. She'll be normal, then she takes a poop, kicks dirt at it, then takes off, horror-movie style, as though the poop is chasing after her!!!

    Cracks me up every time!

[:D] This made me laugh out loud!  I have two Tzus and both of them have always  done this after they poop.  We call it the "poopy dance" - it's how we know they "went".  They come flying into the house and slide on the hardwood floors, running up and down the hall and chasing each other all around.  When one of them comes in like this, my husband and I just look at eachother and say "someone went potty".

Marlowe doesn't do a poop run, but he does do a Groom Zoom. Whenever I brush him, he'll tolerate the brushing for a while but after I let him go, he jumps about 5 feet up into the air and then zooms around the house or yard for a few minutes, in that "My back legs are going faster than my front legs!!!" fashion. Sometimes when we just want him to burn some energy, we'll brush him just for the heck of it and watch him go. It's like a wind-up car.

I have a Shih Tzu and she gets the zoomies too. Sometimes she gets the zoomies when she is really tired.

Hahahaahha ZOOMIES!!! You guys should see Dulce when she gets them!

haha..I think they do it because they feel good after they've pooped! It's a release of energy :)

my Zoe runs around abit before she goes poo.  Then she does a few circles and hits the target, then she kicks up the dirt with an attitude like she is the Queen of Sheba!
