Submissive Urination: At the END of my rope

Would diapers be helpful in this situation to break the cycle of body language setting the dog off? IOW if the dog is in a diaper there is NO chance of ANYTHING getting wet...and the owner can then loosen up and send no signals to the dog to make the problem occur and once that gets to be routine...maybe the diaper thing could be weaned down?

No idea...if that's feasible...but from a child potty training perspective...pull ups saved me a ton of anxiety about cleaning up messes on the floor when it would go right thru the undies and that helped us out a great deal even if the OVERALL process too longer.

I have a small Maltese, that if I holler at her for something she will pee sometimes right there and then.  I think I'm usually yelling at her because she peed on my floor, since she isn't truly housebroken.

Janet, I just wanted to pop in here to suggest that you not yell at her for peeing on the floor.  The reason she isn't housetrained yet might have something to do with her not wanting to pee in front of you.  After all, when she has pee'd in front of you (even though it was in the house), you yelled at her and scared her.  Instead, try just ignoring the mistake (clean it up when she isn't there), and supervise her activities while she is out of her crate or safe area.  If you watch closely, you may catch her circling or sniffing.  Then, just say "outside?" or whatever her potty word is, and get her outdoors.  HTH
