Funny behavior, not a problem, just weird

My dog does something strange when she's on the couch, it's not a behavioral problem, just funny and weird and I wonder why she does it... basically, when she's laying on the couch with us, quietly resting, or maybe chewing on her bone or a toy, she will at random start rolling on her back and "talk".  By "talk", I don't mean barking, rather its a series of short, multi-toned vocalizations.  She doesn't do this when she's laying anywhere else besides the couch.  I'm not looking to stop the behavior because it's cute and funny and she seems to enjoy herself while she does it, I'm just curious as to why.  Any ideas?

Sorry I can't help you, but Copper does the same thing except on the floor!  My DH just laughs and calls him silly.  Copper'll stop for a second look at him, snort and then go back to what he was doing.  What a silly dog!  [sm=lol.gif]

Maybe is just looking for attention, he senses you liked that behavior and he does it

Scout does a lot of that when she first gets out of the crate. It sounds like "AROOROOROO". She has become more talkative lately and I love it!

That's quite possible, since it's hard for us to resist giving her belly rubs when she's rolling on her back! [:)]

When my Scout gets out of her crate, she stretches out and then makes her "wookie noises".  She sounds just like Chewbacca, it's really funny!

Jimmy does that exact same thing except he kicks his legs up in the air while he makes the short bark noises.

My brother's Labrador and my old GSD will do this randomly.  I always thought they just had an itch xD  Strauss won't roll on his back, he just comes to be and sticks his backside in my direction.  xD

Mirelle does this kind of thing when she plays with her toys. I know it's more of a playing thing and not a behavior, but it's so cute to see her rolling on her back and flipping her toys up in the air and all that.  [:)] She uses her back legs to push off the couch too so she scoots herself into the middle of the room. Normally she doesn't vocalize though.

Trey makes the weirdest noises, both rolling around on the floor or anywhere else.  It sounds similar to a goose honking, almost.  It's kind of like "Owwww owww owww..."  He hardly ever barks, except outside or when he gets really excited.  Just mild excitement gets that 'goose noise'.  He's such a strange dog.  lol

LOL!  Poor Scout doesn't seem to INTENTIONALLY push herself off the couch, but sometimes she gets so into rolling around that she FALLS off the couch.  And despite the fact that she's now done this dozens of times, she always seems to be suprised to suddenly find herself on the floor [:D]

I'd say attention!  Over the past year Bubblegum has started laying on her back a lot of times...staring at you,,,just waiting for you to come and rub her belly.  If I ignore her long enough no matter what I am doing, you never know when and where she will be on her back.  Yesterday was a first....I was ironing a few things in my kitchen and noticed there she was in the middle of the kitchen floor on her back staring at me. Do you know how funny a big Great Dane looks on her back???    A riot...and of course she knows that so she always does it.   There are times when I get up and its still dark out and go into the laundry room to get her breakfast (where I keep her food) and walk into the living room and there she is, waiting on her back for me.  LOL!
