Millan's New Book "Be The pack Leader"

Has anyone purchased the book or intend to purchase it? Anyone willing to discuss the book? My idea of discussing would not be with the intent of winning anyone over to Cesar or of taking anyone away from following Cesar but would be more along the lines of just discussing the various aspects of the book.

A discussion of his book would be lively, perhaps painful, sometimes heated and could even get downright violent but overall it should be fun.

     Anyone interested?

     I'm interested. :)

I plan on getting it.......have you read it?

    • Gold Top Dog

I'll have to get the book first and yes lively but I don't think painful, heated, or violent.

I just picked it up yesterday and have only read the introductions. One interesting thing that might interest those who are more opposed to him is that he does mention that he has spent a lot of time learning from others and has invested time into learning some of the methods suggested by those who oppose him. I thought it shows a lot of humility and willingness to listen that cannot always be said by the ones in the opposing camp.

yeah, I picked up a copy yesterday as well.

while browsing through it, i noted that he was talking about positive training somewhere around p46 (roughly) but i did not spend quality time reading it. he did mention that positive training was great for tricks and teaching dogs NEW things but for severe problems, it was a slower process than his usual correction (called negative in the operant camp) methods.

i'm willing to discuss it but i would like to get into the book first before doing so....  so..... perhaps next week for me to engage herein.

I thought it was going to come out till November, time to go to the library Stick out tongue

I don't plan on getting it, unless I see it at a second-hand bookstore or flea market, or even at the library, *off topic* I'll be interested to follow the discussion to see how it unfolds. I saw Cesar's Way at a flea market the other day and almost bought it.

Someday I'll read it, as yes, contrary to popular belief of some, the "opposition" does in fact very much believe in learning about all sides and methodologies as much as the next person. ;-) I wouldn't have Koehler, the Dog Listener, or several other books on my shelves if that was the case. *off topic*

No particular opinion, though it sounds like an interesting read, maybe. I was just going to be a smart aleck and point out that CM's corrections are positive, as in positive punishment, the introduction of a stimulus that is designed to stop the undesired behavior.

    Peace out...Geeked
