barks a lot

I am a foster mom for a local golden rescue and this new guy i picked up from the shelter is giving me fits. He barks A LOT! in the house... outside. all day.. I put a leash on him when he is inside and give him a quick correction and he usually calms down. Sometimes actually comes and lays down besides and sleeps.. others he just gives me the "look" and continues.

Another problem i am having is he wont leave my dog Casey (an englsh setter mix) who is the dominate one btw alone. If you see them in the yard you would swear Casey has gotten twice as long as normal Spur has his nose up Caseys butt. Casey snarls at him a lot and has actually rolled him over and gotten in his face for a few mins. No one has bitten the other but i just dont know how to make it any better.

Also Spur is an escape artist. So i am having to crate him while i am gone to work during the day. An suggestions besides pb kong and some chew toys i am give him while i am gone to keep him occupied. I turned the tv on this morning before i left (thanks for the suggestion Barbara!)

This is only my second rescue and he is definetly a challenge... sometimes i wonder what the heck did i get myself into and then he climbs up on the bed with me Saturday nite and gave kisses and cuddled with me and all was forgotten until sunday morning when the barking brigade started up again...lol...

sorry for such a long first post! I should say he does great at night in the crate goes right to sleep and sleeps all night. hes about 16 months old...

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
