    sixth sense

You know...I swear my Bubblegum can sense exactly what I am doing or should be doing...and lately its showing up more and more.  I know we have all seen this kind of thing in our dogs.   I work thru lunchtime and then leave at my job. At first I was driving thru someplace but decided to just take a half of sandwich to eat on the way home. I have a small cooler that I pack it with a drink in and leave in my car. That way I'm not starved when I get home and eat everything in the house. I keep the little cooler in my kitchen over night.   On Thursday we were having a meeting at lunchtime and our vet usually buys pizza,,so I didn't take my cooler. At 5:30 AM, after Bubblegum ate her breakfast, she went and stood by the cooler,,,something she never does. I swear she was trying to tell me that I should be packing  it.   She usually just goes and lays down after she eats but she just stood by that cooler.   Then this morning at the time I usually get up to go to work,,,she was sniffing my nose,,,while I was still sleeping since I am off today. She actually woke me up.
I swear she has a sixth sense!

Actually dogs can smell and sense things human cant, they can sense that you are nervous, mad, sad, hungry, etc even if you have your best "poker face" at that moment

They also can smell (like we all know) better than humans, dogs can smell tumors like cancer, animals communicate also in different ways, body lenguage, attitude, etc

Your dog is just acting like a dog, is communicating like one, since humans dont sense and smell things they do then sometimes humans think dogs are crazy or act weird, or in your case they have a 6th sense

dyan,  I do believe the same thing.  Some dogs, I think, are more intuitive than others.  When I was living with my folks, we had an akita and two pekingnese.  One night the power went out...sometime around 2 am.  I hear something moving around back and forth upstairs.  I get out the flashlight and look- it's Shiloh, the akita going up and down the hall from room to room.  I watched him for a few minutes, it was like watching the ceremonial guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier (I'm in the DC area and that's what it looked like to me) He just kept making rounds.

I feel that he sensed that *something* wasn't right (the power was off all over the neighborhood) and that he needed to be on alert.

While the senses that dogs have, with the exception of vision ARE much sharper than those of humans, some have more finely tuned SIXTH senses just as humans do.

Since I got hurt, suddenly the dogs are letting me sleep in the morning.  Prior to that, if I wasn't up by 5:30-5:45 I'd get a gentle cold nose in my face.  They know that I'm injured and need my rest now.  But I can almost promise when I'm feeling better, they'll be waking me up again if I don't wake myself up.  That's just one little example.

I could give you many more, but won't.

[:D]Dyan- There is soooo something to what you are noticing.   I have noticed things like that with my current and past greyhounds on many, many occasions.

    Things like:
They know when it is time for me to leave for work because Prudence goes over and stands by her crate waiting to have the door opened so she can go in and lie down and be  given kongs.  [;)]

We forgot to set our alarm clocks today but it didn#%92t matter because they woke us up 2 minutes after the alarm DIDN#%92T go off!   [:o]

My first greyhound Gumby use to NEVER bark or make any sounds and she adored all people.  BUT on several occasions when on a walk she would start trying to drag me to an area where a stranger was with hackles up, teeth showing and growling very fierce and the people weren#%92t anywhere near us nor were they even paying attention to use.   She was absolutely protecting me from what she considered was a bad person or a threat.

Dogs never stop amazing me! [8D]

When my sons were babies, DHs mom and dad used to come to babysit once in a while. They used to tell me all the time that they couldn't believe how they ALWAYS knew when we would be home because my dog Sammy would always be sleeping up on our bed,,,and they would be downstairs watching TV. All of a sudden after not being downstairs the whole night, she would come down and lay in front of the big picture window. Sure enough, within 5 minutes we would pull in the drive.

I think that is so true. You CANNOT pull one over on Penny. She's so clued in to everything that she never misses a thing. She'd start sulking about 4 days before I left home to go back to uni after breaks. I tried so hard to give her no indication whatsoever that I was going to leave soon, but as soon as I started planning, she started sulking.
