Is my dog having an AFFAIR?!!!!

Kobi is in love with my best friend! My friend is one of those people who think dogs are people. She doesn't have a dog anymore, but did have one for 14 years, that they babied and spoiled rotten, from what she told me. She was really excited when I got my new puppy and would literally come by everyday to see Kobi. Of course he would go crazy when she came to the door. Treats and hugs, coming up!

Fast forward 3 years and my dog is still (if not more) rediculous when she comes over. I know right away when she is coming. While she is still in her car, Kobu runs to the door and starts wiggling and whining. By the time she reaches the door, he has grabbed something for his mouth (I trained that), is bouncing, circling, almost barking. I open the door and he becomes totally unconsolable. Whining and circling her. Brushing up angainst ger. Then racing to the other end of the hall and running around in circles. He's just beside himself! It takes a few minutes for my friend to actually make it into the kitchen! My friend gets him to sit, as he is totally focused on her. But as soon as she looks away he is up and all over her. He will follow a command, but seems too excited to hold it for more than a few seconds. It actually takes me up to 10 minuets to get him calmed down. If she's been away for a week, I can add on another 5 minutes.

I have offered her many suggestions to try and modify his behaviour. Like stop bringing him treats! Don't pet him when he jumps! I can't expect any more from her because she thinks he's a baby - human baby! She says she likes to see him soooo happy to see her. Thank goodness he doesn't like anyone else that much!

Does your dog have certain 'other' people that they just go crazy for?

Dancer and Sioux still go nuts when they see my best friend - at one time or another she has been their special auntie & dogsitter.  Sequoyah looooooves my assistant trainer, and goes absolutely bonkers, jumping & spinning & wiggling, when she sees her.  Fergie still loves my BF's dad and gets all excited when he comes to visit.  My hound is faithful to me LOL.  But, my horse absolutely adores my friend from Vermont - he only sees her once a year, but she gives him a special neck rub!!!  He remembers it.

Brando absolutely loved my cousin who passed away three years ago, it was really strange it was like love at first sight between them from the minute they met. and she didn't give treats or anything else.
He also takes to her hubby, he will lie at Bob's feet at stare lovingly into his eyes.
    Trixie loves my neighbor.
    I wonder what it is?

Honestly?  Your dog simply senses the intensity of your friend's feelings -- and probably is responding with the unconditional love and affection that your friend may NEED.  I'd honestly say it's a case of the dog simply responding to a human need.  I'm not sure how much I'd try to tamp down on it -- normally I'm one of those people who expects MY dogs to behave, but I suspect there's a deep emotional need this woman has that the dog simply senses, and if it's not a problem with others I'd simply put a box around them and keep it as under control as you can but don't 'worry' about it.  I doubt this is misbehavior -- sounds like a dog who is probably very sensitive to human feelings and I bet this woman broadcasts far and wide.

Why not talk her into rescuing an adult dog.  I bet she NEEDS a dog.

Cujo loves my father and goes nuts when ever he comes over.He acts just as you describe yours doing. When I take him over to my fathers he starts getting excited about half way there because he recogizes where we are going ,Its really funny and very cute. My dad is really old school, he believes dogs are just dogs , his were always tied outside and if they got sick, oh well. As long as they had food and water that was enough. Cujo has broke thru his hard shell. He now brings Cujo treats and gets on the floor to play with him. Its amazing!!

My Dugan is madly in love with my neighbor. He barks at anybody he sees outside, but not at my neighbor. If he sees her outside he sits very quietly looking over to her yard or stands and wags his tail without making any sound. She comes over frequently and gives Dugan belly rubs and gives him special attention. He loves every minute of it.

Presley doesn't necessarly like one particlular person - she LOVES day-care and everyone at it. She goes nuts when we pull in the ;parking lot.

It's really no wonder because when we walk in all the emplyee's yell "it's Preeeeeesssssssley"! and she turns herself into this little 'u' and wiggles around in circles. I feel a little guilty for thee other dogs because when they go into crates for quite times, the vet tech's 'steal' her and she hangs wiht them in the ;prep-room.

At first I was a little jealous bit it makes me happy to see her soooo happy so...

I don't understand why your friend doesn't listen to you  when you tell her to modify her behavior.  It's your dog so your friend needs to respect your wishes.  If she wants to treat her dog like a human baby then fine, but if this is not alright with you, and it sounds like its not, then you have to tell you friend to cut the c%#p.  Really.  If she likes seeing a dog sooooo happy to see her, then its time for her to get a dog of her own and start listening to you when it comes to your puppy.  Just my 2c.
