Resistance is futile!!!!!

Amen to that... I have met several people who don't use it and say it's nonsense, or irrelevant, or over rated or what have you, but have never tried it.  Whatever happened to "don't knock it till you've tried it"????  And then I remember Me a few years ago and think "oh no I was just like that wasn't I......"

*GG* That doesn't apply to everything though. There are certain pain-illiciting devices that I never need to try to knock 'em out of my life forever.  [:D][:D]

Yeah I was thinking that as I wrote it.....  But while I can see why you'd knock something that caused pain without ever trying it yourself, I don't see the logic in knocking something b/c (presumably) it doesn't cause pain.....  Some people have this misconception that if you fail to punish a dog he won't respect you.

ETA  *GG* ???? What does that mean?

Oops. That was supposed to be *G* (singular) which means *Grin* in shortened form. A reminiscence of Yahoo group expressions, where emoticons aren't used. Sorry for the confusion. [:)]

Anyone actually bother to reseach that site. If so perhaps you can find where she discusses how she trained scent work using a clicker.

Yes, I did bother to read the site - did you? For starters, Steve White is a man.

Here is a quote from the site:

"The force-based methods Steve was originally taught troubled him. Through the years, he came to realize that there is a better way to train. Marine mammal trainers and behaviorists taught him how to achieve superior performance using positive reinforcement and that the principles apply across species lines. Steve specializes in teaching behavior modification, tracking, and scent work through the use of positive reinforcement-based operant conditioning. "

    Awsomedog:

The first link has an active link to Mr. White's email.  One option would be just to ask him about his clicker use.  Perhaps he would be willing to explain from his experience; which appears to be more of what you are specifically requesting. The responses from the board in general have not been adequate to address your questions.
