Fiesty Fido

I am working with a client/friend on some fiesty fido issues and was using the Fiesty Fido book (can't remember the whole name) that talks about teaching a "watch" first, then moving into desensitization and so on after.  Has anyone successfully taught this and about how long was each person's training span?  I'm thinking that this is going to take several months, but just wanted to get some other people's times.

Her dog is an Aussie, 8 months old and he goes a nuts when he sees another dog while he's on leash.  Barking, lunging, etc.  No reports of any "scarey" accidents so not sure if this is fear or reactivity yet.   Probably some part in due to not enough mental stimulation but she's going to come back for agility.  He did great going through the tunnel after just a few tries.   I think part of his issues may be he's still a pup and learning about the world, but no need to let him become a "bossy Aussie".

My dog is a little mutt, Kota and he's 7 years old.  He snarls, barks, lunges and acts aggressive when on leash, towards other dogs.  He's fine with them if he's off leash but does not like dominant dogs.  He has been attacked while on leash when he was younger so I'm pretty sure his case is more fear based.  Best defense is a good offense kind of thing.

We're going to meet once a week and work on the watch command first.  Upping the distractions each week.  Once that's down pretty well, we'll do some walks in parks where we can go some distance away from other non-reactive dogs to practice the watch and the desensitization.
