    Housetraining Problem :(

    Hiya,

I've got a bit of a problem I'd like to ask about.

I have a Lab who is now about 10 weeks old.

I've had him for about 2 weeks.

He's been doing quite well on his housetraining up until now. However, there's a slight problem I've been having recently.

Before he had got in the habit of whining whenever he wanted to pee as long as he was either A) in his crate or B) leashed to something around us where he couldn't just walk away and go in a corner or something.

So at night he would whine then one of us would get up and put him out then we would take him back and put him in the crate.  For a while he didn't have any accidents at night.

However, now at night when he's in his crate he goes pee first then whines right after.  Then we still take him out and he still pees outside as well but he does the majority of the pee in the crate.

We've got a specific place outside for him to go do his busiess and he always goes when we put him out there even if it's just a little bit.

What I am wondering is why he would go in the crate before whining when he was doing so well before.

Also, could someone inform me at which age the puppy will have full control over his bladder?

Sometimes he's just walking around the floor and without any waring begins peeing.

    Thanks a lot!

At 10 weeks of age he is still a bit too young to have full control of his bladder. Lizzie is now 5 months old and she is about 85-90% house trained.

As for the peeing in the crate, how big is the crate? If it is an adult sized crate you should partion it off so he onlyhas enough room to lay down and stretch out a bit. Also, limit his water intake a few hours before bed so he doesn#%92t go to bed with a full bladder. The only reason I can think of as to why he is going potty in his crate is that it is too big. Try Playing with him a lot in the evening so he is very tired when going into his crate for the night, and take him potty before going in the crate so he is tired and with an empty bladder.

P.S. In my experience sometimes puppies will regress just when we think we have them trained :-) it happened to me during potty training and now during obedience training

    Hello,
I totally agree with Julitza.  We have a 5 month old pup and she is finally housebroken BUT, I'm sure we'll still have a few accidents before we're totally there.  If you give them  too much freedom too quickly, the puppy gets confussed.  This happened with our middle dog when she was 1 yr.  Playing in the basement was too much space for her age.
Our daughter's puppy started to potty at night in her crate after going almost 3 weeks without an accident.  We gave her our smaller crate and that did the trick.  Puppy's many times do regress just when you think you've made the hurdle.  Hang in there - you're getting close !  It takes many puppies 5 months before they're 95% trained.  Few accidents probably will happened, especially if they get distracted or excited.
Also, do take up the water or limited it a few hours before you crate him at night.  Walking or exercising the pup before bed is perfect.  He'll be ready to sleep longer with an empty bladder. Our daughter's 2 puppies and ours all get a walk/play-time before bed.  Best part -we ALL have a good night's sleep. (We also don't leave out the food.  If food isn't eatten in 15 -20 minutes, ;puppy isn't very hungry.)
    Good Luck
