    Amount of food to feed?

Hi all, I've got another dilemma.  The breeder who I bought my puppy from said that I should feed her 1/4 cup of food every day, two times a day.  I thought this was kind of sketchy at first because it sounded very small.  I bought some dog food and it says for my puppy I should feed it 1 and 2/3 cup to 2 and 1/2 cup of food every day.  Which one do I believe?

The amount can depend on what the food is....it is my understanding that some of the premium foods require less per serving than some of the average foods.  I would follow the instructions on the package, but how old is your puppy?  I ask because at 13 weeks Ben is still on 3 meals a day, and I only cut that down from 4 meals a day last week.  (Same amount of food per day, just spread out over more meals.)

I'd go with what your packaging says.  What breed is your puppy?

She is 9 weeks old and she is a beagle.

What did the breeder feed?  And what are you feeding?  The difference in kcals is usually the difference in amounts.  And I agree, this pup should still be getting 3 meals a day.  I phase pups off the 4th meal around 9-10 weeks and off the third meal when they stop acting terribly interested in it...that can be 4 months or 6.  It's basically up to them.  They are going to get the same DAILY amount regardless, but smaller more frequent meals is better for them.
